The street lamps began to crumble just like they had done the day of the accident, the earth crumbling as the ground quaked. “Seems you could use a little help, little vamparina.” A masculine voice resonated in the air. Vamparina? There he stood, along with my parents, his eyes red, his black dreadlocks running down along his face, his muscles big, merging perfectly with his physique, his perfectly chiseled jawline with a black cloak on. “Blood!” They groaned. “Back to the underworld.” He said as he raised his hands. The air stood still, flame engulfing the creatures in a minute. Groans filled the air as they began to disintegrate into soot, flowing along with the wind.

Alan moved behind the food preparation table, putting it between him and whatever was coming. On the edge of the shadows that cut across the floor, the two black dogs appeared. They were lanky, appearing to be underfed, their skin appeared shiny black almost like they had no hair. Their eyes glowed red, not wavering as they sized up the humans behind the metal table.

Patterson's porch. A dog. Has to be a dog. Except dogs don't grow that large. And they don't have eyes that burn like amber coals in the darkness. "Nice doggy," I whisper, backing toward my car. "Stay right there." It steps into the weak pool of light from the distant street lamp, and my blood turns to ice. It's not a dog. It's a wolf. Massive, black as midnight, with lips pulled back to reveal teeth like white daggers. And it's not alone.

Finally, I swung my blazing cobalt glare back in Talon's direction. "The mother of my heir remains out here in these blasted wilds...alone, unguarded, and subject to any fresh violation these beasts can muster from their mangy hides." I snapped my fangs inches from the rogue's cowering, bloodied face, eliciting a piteous whine of pure distress from the wretch. "But they soon shall learn that I, Gabriel Blackwood, will kill all insects in my way!" Just then I heard a howl and the sweet pheromones hit my nose.

With a click, the clasp came undone, and the pendant fell to the floor. In a flash, Zoe’s eyes widened. She grabbed my collar like a madwoman. “Y-You… You didn’t switch fates? You lied to me?!” I looked at her in surprise. “What are you talking about?” Miles suddenly exclaimed, “Ow, Maisie. My neck feels itchy.” He pulled down his collar, exposing his collarbone, and clearly revealed who was actually wearing the demonic fate-swapping lock.

Isiewu asked. “Eye of the gods,” Uchendu said, almost in a rush. “Echi is dying.” Isiewu pushed a black pot that was beside him as the news hit home. The liquid that the black pot contained spilled on the floor, noiselessly. The liquid was clear with meanings drawn on every part of it, and Isiewu could see the symbols it contained. The answers of Echi’s present state. “It can’t be possible.” Isiewu voice rose.

He heard his father resorted with frustration in his voice. “Dear, you shouldn’t be here. Go back to your room.” His mother hurriedly whispered when she noticed him listening to their conversation. “Wait, did you just say men in black?” Hyde resorted when he came back to his senses. His companion didn’t speak but answered him with a mere nod. “Oh, and one more thing, she also said that one of them has some kind of black bird tattoo on the neck.” Hyde was stunned when he heard about the tattoo. He’s certain, that the deceased man was one of them—or just a scapegoat.

He gestured at me. "You can't kill me, Silas. I own this fucking city... and I will get back everything you shitheads took from me." His smile dropped. "I will end The Black Rose..." he seethed. "One petal at a time." He laughed. "Isn't that exciting?" He put his hands in his pockets and turned around, not caring about the gun being aimed at his back. Lorenzo and Noir were behind Silas, along with several men that hadn't been there before, pointing their guns at the opposing men.
