Mart wrapped the book to her and told her, "Look here, you'll find a trace of some torn pages." After he saw it, he rolled it up to him again and then said: Let's start reading it then. Mart started reading it out loud and then read the first page that came in front of him. It was the first page after the torn pages.

"Stay here, I will get to the front and get your desired flavors." I say, and oddly enough, they are entralled by the book in their hands.

My conscience doesn't want to add fuel to the fire. Aiden shook his head, pointing to a few pages near the middle of the book. "No, I'm not talking about those pages. Look, three pages are missing right here." We all leaned in to take a closer look, and sure enough, Aiden was right. Three pages in the middle of the book were conspicuously blank as if they had been torn out. "What could that mean?" I said, my mind racing. "Did someone try to hide something in those pages?"

William shrugs, looking so completely unrepentant (for a second, Proserpina was almost tempted to hit him with the book) as he turns to his phone, scrolling through it rather aimlessly, “…get back to it then. Don’t mind me.” She frowned, glaring at the book, “I can’t.” “What? What did I do now–?” “Not you, moron,” she snaps, “The pages were torn!” And it’s true. The next pages looked like they had been torn off or… no, Proserpina quickly amended, fingers ghosting over at the singed pages, at the words that just makes no absolutely sense whatsoever because it wasn’t torn. Some bloody bugger had burned the next page she was supposed to be reading right now–!

" I can't have a heart to heart with Klara right now. I go into my room and shut the door. I pick up my school bag and take the book of enchantments out. I move to sit at my desk trying to push all other thoughts to the back of my head for now. I probably shouldn't have this book but I only need one spell from it. I put my fingers on either side of the lock and I hear it pop. I open the book and I immediately notice that a few pages have been torn out. Strange why would she tear pages out...

The further I delve into the book, the further deteriorations I can see to its neglected condition. I can’t help but notice the thread holding the book together has begun to fray, struggling to contain the historical accounts listed inside. Its layout subtly begins to shift the more I push on, gradually altering with each entry included allowing me to differentiate between the multiple rulers listed inside.

I looked around to find that it was kept on the table nearby. I picked it up and turned the pages looking for the picture but I couldn’t find it. But, I had seen it last night. It couldn’t have been my imagination, could it? When I couldn’t find the pictures even after searching for the third time, I started inspecting the book closely. I found that the page was torn. I was about to run down with the book when the table caught my attention. I gasped taking in its condition. It had a large gaping hole in between. A few drops of blood were scattered on the table and the floor.

Satisfied, I was about to close it when something caught my attention. The page numbers. I frowned. Page forty-three... Followed by... Forty-six. I turned back. Then forward again. Forty-three. Forty-six. The pages hadn't fallen out. They had been cut out. Cleanly. Almost professionally. I ran my fingertips lightly along the inner binding. There was no mistaking it. Several sheets had once been there. Now... They weren't. I sat back slowly. Perhaps... It had simply been damaged. Books this old were bound to lose pages eventually.
