The bear followed my movements across the cave, before he sat down next to me. He slowly lowered himself to the ground and I tried to shrink back against the wall. He stretched his paw out until his claws rested against my leg. I gulped nervously. He watched me through his melted dark chocolate eyes as I tried to will my pounding heart to calm down. I held my breath as I nervously reached out to touch him. My fingers dove into his fur and I shifted to slowly move closer as I ran my fingers through his fur.

He’d filled out, and was skimming the ladder at six feet. “Asher, hey,” he said, with a grin, flipping his loose hair and two braids over his shoulders. “Bear Claw, you look good,” Asher said. The boy grinned, and shook his hand. “Must be the Indian genes.” Asher chuckled and nodded his head. “Must be. Have you completed your vision quest?” Bear Claw nodded, but his expression became grim. “There’s plenty of blood in my future. Oddly enough, the bear emerged as my spirit animal.”
