Even the size of the teddy bear Rose could estimate exceeded her posture. That's right! Theo broke the teddy from the music box and replaced it with another one. "Why is your husband so annoying, Esme!"

My shirt stuck to my back. Next, the plushie game booth. Millie pointed at a giant stuffed bear. “Win that for me, Daddy!” The game was absurd—throwing balls into baskets. I failed twice. The attendant, a bored teenager, smirked. I felt a flash of old anger. I could buy this whole booth. I could have the bear delivered. But I didn’t. I kept throwing. Third try, I got it. The bear was huge, fluffy. Millie hugged it, her face lit up.

Whatever she saw over my shoulder froze her completely. When I turned to see what had Ana so enthralled, I stared in confusion as, at first, all I saw was a giant teddy bear, nearly five feet tall, waddling its way into the room. Its fur was soft beige, and across its chest was a photo of two little kids, with Best Friends Forever scribbled above it in glittery ink. A slow smile lifted my lips. It was adorable. Then I looked past it, trying to catch a glimpse of whoever was carrying the enormous thing, but all I could see was a head of dark, messy hair peeking from behind the bear’s ear. The teddy bear was as big as the person carrying it.

Serena glanced at it and instantly recognized the brand—it was from a famous plush toy company. The bear was over three feet tall. She and Zoey weren't exactly close, but she had to admit, this was a great gift. She had a soft spot for anything plush and fluffy. "Have you guys eaten?" Serena asked. Harvey shook his head. "Not yet. Damian was saying your cooking is amazing, so we figured we'd come over and try it for ourselves!" Sunny nudged him with an elbow. Then after we paid, got outside, and the moment he got into his seat, he held his toys like they were three newborn babies.

Damn, I guess his mansplaining helped. A row of cheap stuffed animals hangs from a rope against the wall and I scan them all deciding which to take home with me. There's a bright pink panda bear with eyes a little too closely set to one another. A blue teddy bear holds a heart with love stitched across it in a swirly font, in case anyone wants to out themselves in an inner-office relationship I guess. They're kind of pathetic, exactly what you'd expect from a carnival. My eyes fall on a green frog with longer than normal legs and I decide he's my prize since it fits with the game.

I repeated it again and again until Enzo began to chuckle. He stood and pulled me up, kissing me quickly, his lips warm from the sun. “Next spot,” he said, tugging me along. He was about to explain that there was one more bear to give away as part of a "buy two, get one free" deal. Diana smiled brightly. "Wow, a set for a family of three. Ben, thank you so much! I love it!"
