The low hum of a group organized. We found them. Not all of them. Not yet. But enough to see a pattern. A fire burned in the circle. A robed figure spoke in a voice like gravel. The rogues listened. They obeyed. I signaled back. We had what we needed. We had knowledge. We also had a risk. Before I could make the call, a twig cracked beneath my boot. One of the rogues looked up. His head turned my way like a tide noticing the moon. He howled. The circle rose.

Zander was completely focused on me now, his computer and paperwork forgotten. “He was nice at first, but then when I went to come on break, he started getting pushy about joining me. Ash told him I’d catch him on fire, and we’d roast marshmallows while he burned.” Zander smiled. “Ash and his sense of humor never fail. I bet the Vampire avoids you from now on. FIRE!",shouted one of the guards and they all started shooting at the infected dog. All the ten men, shooting from their big guns. As the first bullets from each gun hit the dog, ten bullets, the dog fell on the ground and started whimpering. "That's not possible!",shouted Smith,"That dog just survived ten bullets! And one is enough to kill them, and he is still alive!" The dog growled and tried to get up. All of them shot again,at the same time , and the dog fell on the ground and , his breathing heavy and ragged.

“We cannot afford to be brash and try—” Shrieks vibrated the air around them. Hundreds of Tryn burst from the trees. “Fly!” Kohl screamed to his father. “Warn the others.” “No,” his father roared. Fire erupted in a stream from his mouth, knocking some of the Tryn back. Their black leather wings fluttering helplessly to stop their momentum. Several of their dark short fur caught on fire. But it wasn't enough as more and more spilled through onto the ridge.

"She seemed weak, so I helped her with the firefighters' assistance." Damien’s eyes widened. "But how did the fire start?" I took a deep breath, my voice barely above a whisper. "Someone tried to kill me again." "

After saying it for over ten times, a little fire appeared over one grave before the rain water extinguished it. "This is stupid." I gritted my teeth and kicked the headstone, making it fall on the wet soil. Fucking bitch that hurt. Because of the fucking heel in my leg I had forgotten about. I plucked it out and tossed it aside. "What the hell are we going to do now?" "Keep trying till we do what we have set our minds to." Natalia answered. "Try using the torches. Maybe their magic is linked or something." I lowered my still burning torch to the grave and the second the flames touched the soil, it covered the entire grave so quick that I had to jump back to avoid getting burned. And it burn

I tried focusing on everything I could think of to upset me or annoy me, but still, nothing. "Maybe there really wasn't any fire? Maybe we did just push him across the room out of anger." Wynter said. "I saw the fire. I know I saw it and I felt it! Why isn't it working?" I sighed. I swear I wasn't seeing things, but no matter how hard I tried I could not get a fireball to happen. I couldn’t get it to even kind of happen. I tried for so long that I drifted off to sleep, while wondering if I had truly imagined the entire thing.

However, there was something that I didn't think they'd find out. Judith had been shadowing me on purpose to find blackmail material on me so that she could ruin my reputation. She'd then stumbled across the wooden hut and found out about Austin's and my secret. She had also seen him and me at the hospital. Since she couldn't have Austin, she decided to ruin him as well. So, she started the rumor and completely destroyed both of us. Dad was fuming as he yelled at me, "Why didn't you tell us about the wooden hut?"

I watched as Gia’s anger flared as well as alarm I could read the worry on her face, plants surrounded Gia as she slowly disappeared into a cocoon of them, the cocoon exploded, and the plants turned to stone firing in all direction Ari was throwing fireballs in quick succession aiming for Gia.

For the first time, she thought maybe the trial wasn’t a trap at all. Maybe it was the fire that would show her what could never be burned away.
