When I came back, Edward was still by the door, Daniel still by the couch, Falco waiting in the corner like a statue. “We’ll take my car,” Edward said. Daniel’s brow furrowed. “And I’m just supposed to what—wave goodbye? Not happening.” Edward looked ready to argue, but Falco spoke first. “Two cars. We take different routes. Less predictable.” It was the only thing they could both agree on. We left in the rain. Falco drove with Edward in the passenger seat, scanning every passing car. I sat behind them, watching the city lights smear across the wet glass. Every time we passed someone standing on a corner, my stomach clenched.

He tightened his hold on her. Mira's eyes snapped open when she heard something dropping on the ground. She jolted up with the jerk. "sorry!" Moti looked at her scared.
