Vampire pregnancies, as I learned, lasted ten months and some weeks, slightly longer than a human's, but the growth was much more intense toward the end. Before I could even blink, my stomach had swollen into a heavy, prominent curve.

We knew the risks that came with patrolling what lied outside the borders, the constant threat of vampire ambushes lingering in the shadows. The moon hung high in the sky, casting an eerie glow over the dense trees, as if foreshadowing the impending doom. Suddenly, a chilling gust of wind rustled the leaves, sending a shiver down my spine. I tightened my grip on the handles, a silent warning passing through my mind. Out of nowhere, a large group of vampires appeared. Their eyes were glowing red, and their pale faces showed evil grins. They moved incredibly fast and attacked our patrol from all sides.

She swallowed hard and I could see the fear in her eyes. “You…” she breathed, staring at me like she had seen a ghost. She rose her trembling hand and pointed directly at me. “You’re … you’re a vam…vamp…vampire!!”

She asked. “Now that you've said it, I guess the smell was that of-” Jayden uttered. “Vampires!” We all chorused at once, cutting Jayden off. “Good! Seems I'm not the only one who noticed. During the battle earlier, I noticed an anomaly among the monsters. They are neither full-fledged vampires nor werewolves!” When Alana said this, we all looked at her, wide-eyed. “What do you mean, werewolves?” Caden asked.

"FUCKING RIGHT WE DON'T! The bastards down here are no better than the nobles we've known on the surface, did we fear them!?" "NO!" There were so many books about supernatural beings, but the ones I was most interested in were about the three monsters in my life. I gathered as many books as I could carry and settled into a quiet corner. Then I kept flipping page after page. As I read, I kept wondering if these accounts were written by humans or the werewolves, vampires, or incubi themselves, but nevertheless, I got to understand a few things about them that I didn’t know before. "Are the vampires really afraid of sunlight, crosses, and garlic?… But I haven’t seen any of them getting affected by sunlight," I muttered to myself, wondering if all I was reading was wrong.

The people at the inn will notice that something is wrong. I understood what it meant when I saw Ryson drinking blood from that maid. Feeding on humans. On weak people. I had read too many books, watched too many movies, heard too many stories about myths and legends, liked fiction very much. Where humans and vampires didn't get along. Most stories ended in romance, hate, war and death. I wondered how my story will be like seeing that my life is now twisted with these creatures. Vampires. Just saying the name creeps me out. Chills running up and down my spine like waves on the sea.
