Vera Stanhope Book 12 Novels & Stories

ON MY PROFESSOR’S BED. Chapter 112. Author’s Pov. “I don't know who this is, but she….” Stefan’s words trailed off as he scanned Vera from head to toe before giving way for Elena and the rest of the people in the room to see the pretty-looking Vera who was standing by the door, dressed in a black gown and a flower verse her hand, as well as Late Mr. Damon Alcantar’s Assistant. Michael. “Vera!” Nanny Ella stood up angrily and began to approach the door.

I made sure I never said the same story twice if someone asked where I grew up. I sat on the edge of my bed and looked out the window. The moon was bright. Vera thinks she is being smart. She thinks she is protecting the pack from a girl who wants to steal her man. She thinks I am a common thief or a spy. She is looking at me so hard, trying to find a lie in my past. She thinks she knows what a threat looks like. She thinks a threat is a woman who wants to be a Queen. She doesn't understand that I am something much worse.

Both men fell silent immediately. But she wasn’t fine. She felt like she had stepped into a story that began long before her birth—and somehow, she was the only person who didn’t know the rules. Later that night, Sheraphina reached her room at the Vale estate. She locked the door, exhaled, and finally allowed herself to lean against the wall. Then she saw it. A small white envelope slid under her door. Her blood ran cold. She picked it up carefully. The handwriting was unfamiliar—neat but sharp, as if etched with a knife.

“Maybe you’re just sensing something about it because it’s what we need to end this.” Verity shook her head. “No, I’m sensing something about the spire itself. Something off. Something wrong. I can’t describe it.” Verity’s fur bristled. She lowered her head onto her front paws and whined again. I could feel her apprehension flood through me. Something about the spire was giving her anxiety. She recoiled from it and turned herself around so that it was no longer in her point of view. I looked back at the spire.

When there was none, she looked at me seriously. “Don’t you ever say anything like that to Lycan King Zephrus again,” she said. She stood which made me look up to her. “His decision is always absolute and rational. As a new high ranking warrior, Vera, you should think first before saying or asking anything like that.” I heaved a deep sigh. “I know, I’m sorry.” “Rest well, Vera. Tomorrow will be your first day so prepare yourself.” I watched her leave the room and closed the door. My hands balled into fist as I remembered Xena’s situation after our duel. She was wounded and so weak. How could he still punish her? Couldn’t he give her a break? I mean, she just lost in the duel!

He always had a way of hiding all his crimes including the dead body of the pregnant girl he killed when I was little. I drank the water that the maid provided. Beside me, Valerie still comforted me. Vera came suddenly because she wanted to grab some snacks. She cleared her throat and couldn't stand the attention her sister gave me. "Aren't you afraid she will steal Hugo from you?" Valerie turned to Vera quickly. “Watch your mouth, Vera! Estelle became a Stealer not because of her will!” Vera walked arrogantly while shrugging her shoulders. "Yeah, let's see if you still say that."

Thankfully, we had signed a treaty and I was confident that he was doing okay and would return soon in good health with the information I wanted. I rolled the button around my palm, just staring at it fixatedly as though I expected an answer to miraculously fall from the sky. Just then, I heard quick footsteps as though someone was running, and when I lifted my head, I caught Veronica’s scent. What exactly was she thinking that she was running? Did she forget that she was pregnant or something? Since the footsteps were drawing close, I imagined she was coming to see me in my study room and immediately placed the button in my pocket, then began to flip the pages of a romance fiction book whic

Veronica cleared her voice, was about to move past her when Cassandra seized her arm, tugging her towards her, “I don’t treat strangers kindly. We’re going to have to talk for a bit, darling.” Veronica stepped up to her, raising her chin at her, keeping the tremors in her voice in check, “No we don’t. You are playing with fire, Dr. York. Let go of me right now. You have no idea who we are.” She chuckled nonchalantly, taking another step forward, looking down on her, crowding her, “Your achievements might be impressive, Ms. Veronica Chase but to surely you know better than to threaten me like this.”

He assured her, cuddling her close to him. She thanked the stars that she had run into Rhys that day, or she would have been crushed by the weight of this burden before her. Hesitantly, she opened the door to the house, in half hopes and expecting nothing. Veronica sat in the sitting room, reading a book absentmindedly. One will easily know that her eyes were on the book, but not her mind. Her eyes darted around the pages, nothing sinking into her head. When she heard the creaking of the door, she looked up, her eyes lighting up when she spotted Sophie and her partner.
