“I make no promises.” They sat on logs around the fire. Veronica tucked herself against Ethan’s side, legs stretched toward the warmth. Luca handed her a perfectly golden marshmallow sandwiched between graham crackers and chocolate. She took a bite, sweetness exploding on her tongue. For a while the conversation stayed light. Mara talked about the play, a modern adaptation of Antigone that she was directing as well as starring in. Luca described a new drone design he had seen online, something with folding wings and solar skin. Ethan listened, asked questions, teased them gently. Veronica watched the firelight move across their faces and felt a quiet gratitude so deep it ached.

Hellooo Loves, it’s been a long time, hasn’t it? I apologize for the late update but thank you so much for being patient with me. We’ve now come to the end of Arabella’s and Alexander’s story but as seen, Dex’s and Veronica’s isn’t over yet. There’ll be a short book attached to this one for Dex’s and Veronica’s story. Then after their story is done, we’ll have bonus chapters on Alex and Ara, where we’ll get to know about their lives after high school. This will not be now, though because I’ll be completing my other book—My Stepbrother—in June along with writing my new book.

That had been the name that Maria had been babbling about back in the insane asylum. “Who’s Scarlet?” she said. “Do you mean Scarlet Paine?” It was Becca who replied. “Yes. She’s our friend. Or at least she was.” She looked at Jasmine. “It’s too late for Scarlet. She’s one of them now.” Sadie watched the two girls conversing in the mirror, her mind a swirl of thoughts. If Maria had been right about the vampire war, then maybe she was right about the only person being able to stop it being Scarlet. And if Sadie was the only person alive at this point in time who knew that piece of information, then that meant she had to do something with it. She may be the one person who could stop this mess.
