TESSA The next morning hits me like a freight train. I wake up gasping and my heart hammering in my ribs. For a split second, I think I'm back abroad, that this whole nightmare was just some twisted dream brought on by too much studying and not enough sleep. Then reality crashes down on me all over again. Tonight. I'm meeting him tonight. My hands shake as I reach for my inhaler, taking two quick puffs before the panic can really set in. The medicine tastes bitter on my tongue, but it loosens the invisible bands around my chest just enough to let me breathe.

DEVIN'S POV. I woke up with that weight in my chest, making it hard to breathe for a moment-the kind of heaviness that sank into my shoulders before I even sat up. The alarm felt louder than usual, the vibration of it rattling against the nightstand in a way that shot straight into my nerves.

The episode that morning had frightened even me. I had woken before sunrise with a strange pressure in my chest. At first, I thought it was the usual discomfort, something I could breathe through if I sat up slowly and waited for the feeling to pass. Then the cough started. It had come hard and suddenly, tearing through my chest until my ribs hurt. I had barely managed to reach for the tissue beside my bed before I saw the blood. After that came the dizziness. I remembered Wayne finding me sitting on the bathroom floor, one hand pressed against the wall while I tried to convince myself that I wasn’t going to faint.

Athena When I woke up I found myself on the bed alone. The rays from the sun were responsible for waking me up. Yawning I rubbed my eyes to wipe away the drowsiness and got down from the bed. My mood was not as heavy as all the other times because last night had not been tough for me, everything that'd happened was within a limit and that is why I have not woken up with a huge weight over my chest and terrible memories.

My limbs are heavy, useless, my muscles aching deep in a way that makes even breathing feel like work. I try to inhale and have to stop halfway through, chest tight and sore, lungs burning as if they’ve been pushed past what they were meant to handle. Every breath comes shallow, careful, like my body is afraid to ask for more. The room swims when I shift. My head throbs, a dull pressure behind my eyes, and it takes a few seconds too long to realize I’m in my own bed. That the light coming through the window is wrong. Higher. Brighter. Morning. Whatever happened, however long it lasted, it ran its course. And it left me hollowed out in its wake.

“Or Kael’s throat. Or her own vocal cords.” “Hey,” I say. “I’m right here.” “I know,” Ava says. “How’s your breathing when you wake up? Have any panic attacks since the bullet?” I glare. She raises her brows. “Answer the question, or I’ll start reading your bloodwork aloud,” she threatens. I deflate. “Fine,” I say. “I wake up a lot. My chest feels…heavy. My hands shake sometimes. I keep checking the windows for red dots like a paranoid squirrel.”

I wake up with my heart pounding. Sweat drips down my back so my vest is stuck to it. There is a feeling of impending darkness, of something so heavy in my chest that it seems to get larger by the minute. I swing my legs over the side of the bed and stay there, panting. My heart stutters, and I rub my chest.

*huff huff huff" It was a hellish experience. I grasp my right chest as I hold it tightly. My left chest is expanding and shrinking because I am breathing deeply but my right chest doesn't. (You're serious?) I do manage to breathe in this hot air but I feel like it's not enough. My knees touch the ground falling into a thud and after that my upper body soon also fell to the ground. My whole body stops functioning as I can't feel anything. Feeling cold and heavy, my brain is forcing me to fall into a deep slumber. I tried to resist it as I grit my teeth so hard to feel pain. But soon after a couple of seconds I can't resist the sleepiness anymore and fall into my forever slumber. -----------

Valen I gasped awake, my back arching and lifting my chest off the bed. The air seemed to refuse to enter my lungs, though. I gasped like a fish thrown onto the beach, opening my mouth and trying to suck down oxygen, but it wouldn’t work. I fell out of the bed, clutching at my chest. My fingers were turning cold, and black spots formed at the edge of my vision. Tears prickled at my eyes from the burning pain in my chest.

I murmured. The following morning, I woke up in a very shocked and disorientated state. My eyelids felt heavy from sleep but what felt unusually heavy was the sensation of something pressing on top of my chest. My body felt heavy and felt extremely lazy and without a doubt, I wasn’t looking forward to the new day. That was the reason why it took that much more extra effort for me to slowly open my eyes. The empty familiar ceiling of my bedroom greeted me. Everything seemed normal until I lifted my head a little off the pillow and glanced down at the source of discomfort on my chest.
