Hailey I groaned as I woke up, stretching my legs and my back. I rolled over without opening my eyes, snuggling into the pillow under my head. Why was I so sore? CYRUS’ POV I woke up the next morning feeling hot. The sleeveless shirt I wore was sticking to my skin in all the wrong ways. My legs felt heavy and my head hurt. There was a tightening feeling in my chest and it felt oddly familiar. Everywhere was dark, and it was only when I tried to blink my eyes did I realise that they were still closed. It took way more energy than normal to open them, the irritating feeling of both my eyes’ upper and lower eyelids sticking together ever so prominent. Finally, I was able to peel my eyes open, allowing unwanted light to seep into my sight.

Bree woke up feeling absolutely awful. Her mouth tasted sour, so she hurried to the bathroom and threw up. Only saliva came out, and she felt dizzy from getting up too fast. The bitter, acidic taste lingered in her mouth. She wiped her lips and splashed water on her face. When she looked at herself in the mirror, that was when she noticed her swollen eyes. And then the memories from last night came crashing down on her like an avalanche. As soon as she remembered what she had witnessed, the pain returned full force. Her eyes watered again.

Lizandra I could hardly close my eyes all night, and I couldn't say that I woke up. As a result of the terrible night tossing and turning in bed, shedding rivers of tears, the next morning I felt horrible. It felt like a tractor had run over my body, leaving me sore. But my eyelids are so heavy, if I could just sleep for a while. My eyes snap open, and I cry out at the pain that shoots into my side. “You can’t sleep. Try to stay awake. You’re losing plenty of blood.” I have no idea who is speaking. I want to open my mouth and tell her I can’t keep my eyes open, but I’m suddenly feeling so tired.

Then it aggressively flips the car upside down, producing a head-shaking thud. Both Davide and I gasp in pain. When I inch my eyes open, my vision is blurred and one of my eyes is stinged with something oozy and sticky. Weakly, I lift my hand to my brow near that eye. I jolt in pain when my fingertips prod my brow. Without the need to see what my fingertips felt while prodding my brow, I know then that the oozy, sticky, painful and rusty-smelling liquid is my blood.

The glare of the morning sun streamed through the window, making me squint my eyes. Yawning, I sat up and shook my head to clear out the last of my sleep, eyes feeling heavy. That’s what happens when you cry for hours to no end. A sharp voice inside reminded me.

The exhaustion of it all—emotionally and physically—took over, and eventually, sleep claimed me, though it wasn’t a peaceful rest. The sound of my alarm dragged me out of the darkness the next morning, as it did every day, reminding me that life was waiting for me to face it again, no matter how much I wanted to stay lost in the quiet of the night. I forced myself out of bed, my body heavy with exhaustion, and dragged myself to the bathroom. The cold tiles beneath my feet were a shock, and I barely registered the motion of brushing my teeth and splashing water on my face. When I finally caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror, I was taken aback. My eyes were swollen, likely from the weight

Each time it happened, they would tell me I was saying words that made no sense, ones they couldn't keep up with. The oddity about it all was how I forgot everything whenever I awakened, like it didn't happen. Had it not been for Blue, who was constantly on my case, to know what was wrong with me, I wouldn't have realized anything odd. I would have thought I blacked out because of the pregnancy, and nothing else.. However, a day ago, something strange happened. I woke up with bruises all over my body and red eyes.
