I stopped mid sentence , trying to find the words to say what I had thought. “But…” Andrew eggs me on to continue. “ There was just something odd about him…yes , he was a rather handsome man..” I feel my cheeks grow red in embarrassment. “…but something about him just did not feel right… he was not mean or was rude to me , but his presence was uncomfortable…” I say quietly , playing with my fingers. I hear the bell on Angel tinkle as he hops around the room , Andrew’s shoes come into view as he steps in front of me. He pulls me in a comforting hug , telling me that he will always protect me through this hug.

The men froze, their gazes flickering, and they retreated, melting into the dusk as the crowd’s whispers grew bolder. I waved off the stares, my hands trembling as I knelt to gather the apples, their bruised skins cold against my fingers. “I’m fine—heading home,” I said, my voice steadying, climbing into the cab. The baby jabbed hard under my ribs, a sharp twist that made me wince, and I gripped the wheel, my breaths shallow, the engine roaring as I peeled out. The road home stretched lonely, trees crowding the asphalt, the mall shrinking in the rearview, my heart still thudding from those yellow eyes.

Warren could only reflect on how people change over time. Perhaps Ian had been blinded by greed, or maybe Warren had never truly understood him. After a moment of silence, Warren spoke calmly. "Did you really think I'd come to you without being prepared? Go ahead, check your shares." At those words, the confidence drained from Ian's face. When he looked toward the crowd, their confusion mirrored his own. Panicked, Ian grabbed his phone to make a call, but no one answered.

“No, Albert. I’m not. But I think Granny Apple is communicating with someone, and that someone is either the stalker or someone who is helping the stalker. We need her to stop playing games and tell us what she knows.” Granny Apple looks down, and we see tears run down her eyes. Albert rubs Granny Apple’s back reassuringly, and then growls at me. “Alpha Aaron, I trust you know how to control your Beta. I do not appreciate the tone of his attack, and I expect it to stop.”

Yara I refuse to ask where the packhouse is. I’m pretty sure that arrogant Alpha, and yes, he’s very arrogant, is back there laughing at me, even after I painstakingly put his leg back together. I have half a mind to break all those bones again and leave him to his own devices. ‘Oh, that’s not what half your mind has been focusing on,’ Annika says, sending me images of Warren naked in the forest. ‘I was focused on his injury,’ I insist.
