The One
I remember the first time we kissed, when we made love and we knew that we were destined for one another.
I was born to love her. I was trained to protect her. Now I will die for her, and it will be the greatest honor.
Shadows begin to creep around me, cold and thick, wrapping around me like a second skin.
They rise from the ground, curl around my limbs, and drag me down. I cannot fight them. I have nothing left. In my delirium, I wonder if they’re real, or if this is what everyone envisions with they die. Death comes for all of us in the end, after all.
