Was Mara close to this person? I bit on my lips. “Were we…friends, Adam?”

“I’m not proud of how I came into this world.” I squeezed his hand. “Don’t think that. That’s not who you are. You’re not defined by their mistakes.” He looked down at me then, his guard finally slipping just enough to let the vulnerability show. “I hope you still feel that way after everything I’m about to do.” I arched a brow. “What do you mean?” Adam let out a humorless laugh and reached for his coffee. “I’m going to take CBS back.” The determination in his voice sent a shiver down my spine—not from fear, but from the sheer force of his will.
