Weight of Words Untold
I lowered my gaze, tugging my coat up a bit, trying to hide my face.
"I've been trying to lose some weight."
I lied.
Fortunately, he didn't pry further and took the cake with him as he left.
Watching him walk away, I caught a glimpse of his left hand, heavily bandaged.
When I returned to the hospital, Keith, worried about my extended absence, gave me a stern lecture.
Still, I felt lighthearted. Things were finally starting to improve.
Seeing my mood, Keith couldn't help but smile too.
After a moment, though, his expression grew serious again, as if he remembered something.
