Even if I had to, I'd drag someone down with me. A rusty axe lay in the corner of the cabin, left behind after chopping firewood. Without hesitation, I grabbed it and swung at the lock. A loud clang echoed across the entire pack's territory, sending birds scattering from the rooftops. After a dozen swings, my arms burned with pain. The lock finally snapped. I shoved the door open and bolted. Under the moonlight, my skin gleamed an eerie violet. Clearly, the wolfsbane had seeped into my bones.

It’s brittle, almost like dried branches snapping underfoot, but the sound feels heavier than that. I stop, narrowing my eyes even though I can’t see much in this darkness. I crouch down, running my hand along the ground. The surface isn’t smooth like rock... it’s uneven, rough, and... Bones. My fingers brush over one, small and light, too small to belong to any animal I can think of. I pick it up, turning it over in my hands, feeling its shape. My jaw tightens, and rage consumes every cell of my body as the realization sinks in.

wolf spirits luring travellers into ravines. Some of it was less easy to dismiss. Stories repeated across regions and decades: silver burns; wolves with human minds; fated pairings described as recognition in the bones before the brain caught up. I read that last line three times and hated every word of it. Bailey’s voice came back to me in my living room, bright and teasing and too perceptive by half. If you ever meet someone and it feels like your bones recognise them before your brain does… I shut the book and pushed it away.

He winks at me as Oona packs up the chess board. She walks past me with the board and slipped a handmade tiny book with a few pages into my right palm. "You can read it now." She says, "Bones won't tell on me." I smile at her and look at the piece of paper. The cover has a gymnast with long hair. It has a title written in capital letters; "HOW TO GET MY SWEET CHUBBY CHEEKS XYANA TO CONVINCE MY DAD TO BUILD A GYMNASIUM FOR THE PACK."

It was so clear that it glinted in the moonlight, and I noticed gold engravings everywhere across the bones. “Okay,” Allen said, catching up beside me, his voice a little higher than usual. “That’s... pretty interesting.” “You ever seen anything like it?” I asked. Allen shook his head, eyes wide. “I’ve read about ancient beings, sure, but such engravings on the bones? That’s new to me. Even the oldest books in my library don’t mention anything like this.” I stared at the skeleton, something about it tugged at me. I reached in, gently sliding my hands beneath the rib cage. “Let’s take it out.”

It is not potent but it is still suppressing them. CRUNCH! Both of them jump when Lavi steps on something crunchy. They look down and to their horror, it is a bone! “A human bone,” Lavi deduces when he examines it. Anna looks around the ground and sniffs the air closely. Lavi is right; there are several other human bones on the ground and there is a slight stench of corpses. “Lavi this place does not feel right,” she whispers. “Are you sure the book is here?” “I am not but this is the only place which can hold a book as powerful as that,” he mutters. “My mother mentioned this place many times. I am sure she found the book here or at least hid it here.”

I have not seen anything that actually is horrific but as I walk, I realise a bright light from somewhere inside and as curious as I am, I follow where the light is coming from. Interesting that there are no guards or something to scare the shit out of me and am starting to thing, damn! This is so damn easy. As soon as I reach where the light is coming from, I let the curiosity get the better of when I spot human bones and some dead animal skeletons. I am starting to lose it the more I see a lot of the skeletons lying there. It looked like the worst version of a butcher's. I have studied those science classes about skeletons and the truth is, nothing is good about them.

We chatted while doing the laundry, we were about to finish when we heard something explode. "Oh shoot!" Freya hissed. I looked at her then to the direction the sound came from. "What's that?" I asked. "They're causing another commotion again!" She started to gather the laundry. "Who?" We're now gathering everything. Even though I can't understand what's happening, I followed her. Who knows if it's really dangerous! She stopped for a moment to answer me. "The Bones." She said. What!? "The bones are causing trouble?!" How come a bone causes trouble?!
