"I went. My parents went years ago, and they're still completely devoted to each other. I believe it." I listened and let out a small, crooked smile. I had missed it after all. The door opened. Sky groaned weakly and went to sit down on the bed. "Well, what is it you ever really liked? See nothing!" Sammy threw his hands up in surrender and fell back on the bed. "You're such a buzzkill, Sky." Sammy smiled. "Tell me already, Sammy." Sky pleaded finally, falling into the soft mattress along with his brother. "Stefan is coming this weekend."

"Yeah, I hear you. Listen, I wanted to ask if you're free this weekend. I'm thinking of taking a road trip upstate, and I'd love for you to come along." Stefan felt a flicker of excitement at the prospect of a break from his routine. "That sounds awesome, man. Let me check my schedule and get back to you." They chatted a little while longer, catching up on each other's lives and reminiscing about their wild days. After they hung up, Stefan felt a sense of lightness that he hadn't felt in weeks. Maybe a weekend away was exactly what he needed to clear his head and recharge his batteries.

I was also interested in making sure that there was never stuff like this coming up again. It was quite amazing what they had planned on doing without conducting proper studies and now, were about to face the music. "I need what you owe me. I have given you a lot of time to call back, but you have not done that all along. I still visibly think that there is something wrong with you. Stefan didn’t immediately answer her simple question, looking at her with a guilty expression. "He’s not in London or even England. He’s in Sweden." Gia froze when she heard the name of the country. "Where?" "Sweden," Stefan repeated with a conciliatory smile. "Listen... I know this is sudden. But I’d like you to go there and help him recover, maybe for six or seven months. He’s very motivated to recover, so I’m sure he’ll make quick progress." Stefan thought Gia’s silence was due to the abruptness of the assignment. But he was wrong. Gia remained silent, as the mere mention of that country made her feel uneasy.

Then he appeared. Stefan stepped out of the shadows, his tall frame cloaked in black, his eyes gleaming with amusement. “Did someone mention a spell book?” he asked casually. “Stefan,” I said, surprised. “You’re late.” He smirked. “Had to make an entrance.” Melanie’s face lit up. “Brother!” She ran to him and threw her arms around his neck. “I’ve missed you!”

How Millie wished he would just appear before her eyes in the very next second. She gave explicit instructions to the maids and Tobias to inform her immediately if Pierce came back. Currently, he looked much slimmer, and there was a faint pale tint of sickness that lingered on his face. Stefan appeared to be much gentler now. Stefan said, his voice a low, dangerous growl, "before I make sure you never play another game this season." Luca just laughed, but he backed toward the door. "January is coming, boys. Let's see if this 'love' lasts through the winter trade." The door clicked shut. I sank into a chair, my legs feeling like lead. "He knows, Stefan. He’s going to dig until he finds the truth." Stefan didn't look at the door. He was looking at me, his expression unreadable. "Then we make it more convincing," Stefan said. "How?"
