When The Night Falls Novels & Stories

I'm quiet because I actually feel guilty about all of this, I feel like I would have been able to do something. “No, that's not it, mom. I'm not scared of the news, and I will not get any nightmares,” I say and mom smiles. “Goodnight honey!” mom says and I wave, “Goodnight mom,” I say. She flips my light switch off and darkness floods the entire room. I turn off my phone and now I'm in absolute darkness, the kind of darkness where I can't even tell whether I'm lying or standing. After a few seconds of counting sheep, I fade. into my subconscious, gradually.

He had to bring out the worst in him. ON THE HILLS OUTSIDE THE WALLS OF NORTH ANGUS Standing at the peak of one of the hills poking out of the surface they eyed the dying lights of the city. Slowly the flickering lights died down, it was midnight, the villagers were shutting their windows, traders were blowing out their candles, the night sky informed them it was time to sleep.

The full moon hung high in the ink-black sky, casting an eerie glow over the gathering crowd. The air in Crescent Falls was electric, buzzing with anticipation. Tonight was the Alpha’s annual gathering a celebration of pack unity, power, and tradition. But for Seraphina Gray, tonight was more than that. It was the night everything was supposed to change.

She was yanked back to reality as she felt herself lose a foot and stepping in the air, she stumbled forward and before she knew it…she was falling down the cliff hidden in the middle of the night. Falling was the last memory she had before her body hit the water. ~~~~ ‘Damn,’ Noah thought in the back of his mind. ‘Father won’t be happy about this, it’s past midnight.’ Despite the realization, the raven-haired boy still took his time walking around the dark woods. The instinct within him confirmed that there were no living souls around him, which made his heart settle at ease.

The night wrapped around Nand and Venya like a soft, comforting blanket, the moon casting a gentle glow that seemed to deepen the intimacy of their conversation. Underneath the starlit sky, they shared open-hearted talks, weaving tales of shared experiences and dreams yet to be realized. As midnight approached, Nand sensed the need for Venya to return to her own quarters, mindful of the late hour and the responsibilities that awaited them come morning. He gently urged her to retire for the night, his words carrying a gentle insistence tempered by a shared understanding.

As darkness fell, the pack lapsed into an unsettling silence. The woodland floor was covered in shimmering shadows from the quiet crackling of fires. With their ears twitching at every sound, the majority of the wolves slept restlessly.

The stars did not fall with noise or fire. Instead, they drifted, soft as ash, slow as regret, blanketing the skies above Sanctum for three nights and three days. Each flake glimmered, ephemeral, settling on rooftops, the backs of silent wolves, and the palms of children who dared to reach for them. The city stilled beneath this celestial hush, the air trembling not with fear or awe, but with the sense that an ancient story had finally run out of pages.

The morning of the coronation dawned with a strange, unnatural hush that seemed to blanket the entire capital. It was as if the wind itself had held its breath in anticipation of the day’s significance. By midday, the temperature began to plummet, and the sky began to dim with a cool, silver twilight creeping across the vast expanse of the Midnight Frost. This was the moment of convergence, the day the fragmented, warring lands would finally coalesce under a single, unified banner.
