Rain pelted down in sheets, blinding me as it streamed over my face. Damn it. Was I going to freeze to death out here before Angelo arrived? I lay sprawled in the mud, gasping for air. I fumbled in my pocket until my fingers closed around the phone. The screen lit up, showing it was midnight. Headlights cut through the curtain of rain. A black armored car stopped in front of me. The door opened, and a pair of polished leather shoes stepped into the waterlogged earth. A tall figure slowly stepped toward me beneath the shelter of a black umbrella. I could only make out his jawline and a pair of tightly pressed lips.

I throw out my hands, and I swear I feel feathers brush against my finger. But it doesn’t matter, because I stumble back and fall into the dark water.

I am staring at the trees now. It's late at night and the cold breeze has calmed me down today. I'm going home tomorrow. My parents need me there and I can't cancel that meeting because it's important. Thana's birthday is also close. I have to be with it at least because of the day when we didn't see her. I miss her. One moment I’d been curling up in Dain’s arms, my eyelids fluttering shut as I drowned in his delicious scent, and the next I was back on that cursed platform, the one Nadia and I had fallen from. The moon was full as it hung in the sky, out shining every single star that dared stand too close. Not a single cloud lingered, as though they too knew that they would pale in comparison. Only the softest of breezes drifted by, lightly stirring the nightgown I now wore.

Vienna's POV: The wedding ceremony was being held on a moonless night. Unlike Camden Falls, where ceremonies were bathed in the moon’s silver glow, the Northern Pack believed that on such nights, the Moon Goddess took her leave from the sky to walk among her children. It was a beautiful thought—one that filled my heart with warmth, as did my reflection in the polished bronze mirror before me.

The sun sinks into the western horizon. A reddish-orange colour filled the sky. Darkness was falling. Day turns to night. After a long day at work, people will return to their homes and meet their families and loved ones. Night can be a more pleasant time because it is only at night that most people can be themselves.
