I whisper, “leave a note. I don’t like surprises.” His pupils blow wide (just for a second) before the mask slams back down. I stand. He doesn’t stop me. I’m halfway to the hallway when his voice follows, low and dangerous, almost amused. “They’re not surprises, Livia.” I turn. He’s looking at the ruined coffee, then at me. “They’re promises,” he says, so quietly I feel it in my bones. “For every day I watched you build his empire and did nothing.” The air leaves my lungs.

And I- 'That's so bitter Craig, not all people were the same.' The guy beside me stated with a cheeky smile flustered on his face. My palms instantly fisted at the sight of him. Yukii, stop that. 'Nahh, what for? I'm right anyway, it's not like everyone is the same right? Besides, there are two types of promises. The real and meant one and the real but must be broken one. Either way, promises were made because it's meant and intended to be done but against this world, breaking such thing is inevitable.'

My resistance cracked. Not shattered—not yet. But cracked enough for the light to seep in.

I whisper. "I promise you, it’s not." And this time, I mean it.

No rush. Just the press of her fingers closing over his, holding the memory chip between them. A promise. A beginning.

"I won't say another word, I promise." "Good," she whispered.
