Why Does My Eye Feel Bruised When I Blink Novels & Stories

Pity me. When my eyelids are fully opened, I move my eyes and blink deliberately trying to clear my vision. It’s blurry but, I can see a corridor and a couple of doors. I shut my eyes harshly and then, I open it again. A little by a little, my vision is clearing. I let out a long breath. A gas comes out from my mouth.

She was okay and I know she was. While I tried to comfort myself, I felt a slight pain from my chest, my ears feeling suddenly itchy while my vision was beginning to blur and when I blinked to recover a clearer sight, I began to see things that I was not sure if they were real or if they were just my mind being a trickster.

I splashed some against my face, sighing in relief. I looked back at the mirror at my reflection, asides the dark spots that was dotting the space below my eyes, I looked okay. My cheeks were rosy and smooth and my lips was more plumper. I peered closer at my eyes, zoning in on the dark bags underneath. Then it happened, it came like a flash but I saw it clearly. I gasped, taking a step back and blinked. What was that? Slowly, I moved towards the mirror again, peering closer. The flash of purple came again, more brighter than the first time and I gasped, but this time it was of pain.

"No." The door opens. His head pokes around. "Why don't you talk over food. Take a separate table if you want some privacy." He strides over to my mother and with a slight hesitation, touches her face, looking this way and that. "Any headache? Dizziness? Nausea?" "No." He lifts the lid of the one open eye with a thumb, peers in, then, "No permanent harm done, I think. But you're going to have a bruiser of an eye for a few days."

Brayden’s eyes fluttered open, the dim light of morning seeping through the edges of the curtains. His head throbbed with an intensity that made his stomach turn. He blinked slowly, trying to focus, but everything around him felt blurry and distant. His hand instinctively moved to his temples, rubbing them gently in an effort to relieve the pressure building inside his skull. The pain was relentless, pounding in time with his heartbeat, and it took all his willpower not to groan aloud.

Without warning, I reached up and pulled the glasses off her face before she could raise her hands to stop me. The bruise around her left eye was horrific. It was a deep, mottled purple that no amount of makeup could have hidden. It spread across the socket in a way that showed the heavy force of a closed fist, darker at the bone and fading into a sickly yellow near her cheek. The lid was swollen, making that eye look smaller than the other, and a small, jagged cut marked the edge of her brow where the skin had split. Someone had hit her with full force. I felt a cold rage settle in the center of my chest. My grip on the glasses tightened until the plastic frame creaked.

To be fair I am also surprised by the fact that I’d actually managed to hurt her. But then a wave of dizziness hit me so suddenly that I had to grab the edge of the desk to keep from falling over. Black spots danced across my vision for a few seconds before everything snapped back to normal, leaving me blinking and confused about what had just happened. I attributed it to Maya’s slap, because getting hit in the face hard enough to leave bruises probably did things to your brain.

And now, Ellena couldn't help but wonder if she'd ever will. When Edward saw that she wasn't moving, he frowned and walked over. "What's wrong with you?" When he suddenly moved closer, she ducked her head and wiped the tears from her eyes. She blinked rapidly, only to feel her vision blurring from the tears. "The wind's really strong. Something must've gone in my eye."

Kai. I stood in front of the mirror longer than I should have because I couldn’t quite believe what I looked like. The reflection staring back at me barely resembled the person I was supposed to be. My left eye was bloodshot, the red stark against the pale of my skin. A dark bruise spread across both temples, one side worse than the other, where a small stitch pulled slightly at the skin near my hairline. The swelling there hadn’t gone down yet. It throbbed faintly, a constant reminder of what had happened.

I was trying to fix myself while looking at my face in the mirror. Following the number of water droplets from my face was how frequent I blinked my eyes while resisting myself not to cry ever again. My eyes were puffy, and I no longer had any makeup on my face—even a slight shade of lipstick. Now, I couldn’t help myself again but feel self-pity.
