The day we discovered we were fated, Caspian confessed he loved me and kissed me like I was his addiction, and I felt like the universe had finally apologized for everything I had lost in my life. Caspian was finally mine. And I was his. But lately… Lately, he has been… distant. Not cruel. Caspian has never been cruel to me or to anyone. I just feel that he has been busy or just… distracted. He is also cold sometimes. Like there is a door between us he won’t open, no matter how many times I knock and beg him to let me in. I keep telling myself it is just stress. As the Alpha of this pack, he has expectations, responsibilities.

“You’ve been really distant lately, like you don’t want to touch me, or be close to me. Are you getting tired of me?” I ran a hand through my hair “Can you stop imagining things in your head?” I tried to keep my voice calm, though I was annoyed. “I’m not distancing mysel… okay, well yes, I am distancing myself from you, but it’s not because I’m tired of you. It’s because I have more important things to do.” She blinked at me, unimpressed. “More important things?”

Occasionally he may miss dinner from working late, but that’s not all the time. I make sure his clothes are clean and hung up. I make him lunches for work. I always make sure to plan dates nights at least once a month. I show him affection and intimacy constantly, or when he allows it. He always puts me off, saying he’s tired or he has to get up early. There’s a distance I feel between us. It feels as though he’s put a wall up and there’s not door for me to walk through to get to him. I’m always knocking, and he just asks me to come back later.

“Is it about yesterday?” “Part of it, but majority is that he saw you here one day. He doesn’t like it and apparently he doesn’t like you. How am I supposed to deal with this? I love you both and I will never choose. So how am I supposed to be with you when my son doesn’t like you?” I ask. Noah had placed me in a hard place. She’s quiet for a while. "Yes. I mean he is my boyfriend. Why won't I?" "That poor bastard." He cursed. "He is not a poor bastard. Get out!" I told him. "What?" He looked shocked. "I said get out," I repeated. "You are not chasing me out, are you?" "What do you think? I am not in for your stubbornness. Get out now! " I yelled at him. Then he started to move closer to me. At one point, I got scared. "Why are you moving closer?" I asked looking down at the constant distance between us. It was getting smaller. He stopped just a few feet away from me. He was too close and that was disturbing. I don't like it.

Maybe just two hours maximum. “Okay.” He nodded curtly at me and went to the bedroom. I sighed as I looked at the blank tv screen. He didn’t even call me by name or ‘Baby girl’. Being with him in this state was difficult. I couldn’t push him for answers, yet I wanted to, so much. How much further was he going to pull himself away from me? Only two days of being around him like this, and I felt I wanted to give up. Yes, I was selfish. Just two days and already giving up? Seemed as though I didn’t love him too much, did it? But I hate secrets. It would be better if he just told me he didn’t love me anymore, or anything, rather than being this distant. It never worked for me with other men. But

Then the text came in, the screen of my phone lid up a text from the apartment group chat. It read. ‘Dear esteemed tenants. We are sorry to inform you that there’s a black out and we won’t be expecting electricity still tomorrow’ I sighed. But still no response from my boyfriend for like two hours since I texted him about our date tomorrow evening. Not like I expected much, it's been like this for months now. Distance. Slow response. No phone calls except I initiated first or he needed something. We have been dating for two years but out of the thin blue, Samuel changed drastically overnight. I couldn’t help but suspect that he was cheating but he brushed it off as me being dramatic.

I know he’s trying to protect me. I see it in the way he holds himself back. But it still hurts. More than he realizes. I try not to let it get to me. Try to focus on us, on the moments we share, the life we’re building together. And most days… I can. But these past few days… Something feels different. He’s been distant in ways he doesn’t realize. Busier. Spending more time with his father… more meetings, more conversations I’m not a part of.

I felt stronger, I ran longer, and it gave me the boost in confidence that I needed to hold my ground with Ryan. He had become increasingly needy lately and I knew it was my fault, I wasn't great girlfriend material, I was emotionally distant and physically unavailable, so I tried to make more time for him.
