"My lords," Iver began, voice smooth as oil, "our Alpha hunts in Clan One, chasing shadows. A human girl."
A ripple of murmurs broke out. Some frowned. Others leaned forward, interest piqued, but the General left out a crucial detail, the hunter, because he knew that would derail the course of his plans.
Iver let the silence stretch before lowering his voice, just enough to make them lean in.
"I do not presume to question him," he continued, though every syllable dripped with false humility. "But I cannot ignore what I've seen. His focus... it is not on our enemies. It is on her."
