Scarred by fate
I shrug, keeping my tone casual as though this explanation were obvious.
“That doesn’t make any sense,” Dom says, frowning.
“He was all set to come,” I add, meeting his gaze steadily. “The King didn’t see a reason to rescind the invitation just because his father died.”
It’s not entirely untrue. The King had been more than happy to support Sam’s inclusion. The way Logan grunts and heads off to get food tells me he’s accepted it, even if he doesn’t like it.
The others exchange glances before following Logan. None of them come back to our table, and I release a breath I didn’t realize I’d been holding.
