Branches whipped against their faces, roots almost made them trip, and distant voices of the witches whispered, cackled and tracked their scent. “Where to?” A Voice said cackling,their heads snapped back at once, the witch was floating above them some distance away from them ,Elena began to sob loudly.

And she breaks. It’s not just a cry of grief. It’s a sound that shakes the heavens. A wail so raw and agonizing that the witches drop to their knees. Even the flames recoil, flickering as if the fire itself can’t bear her grief. The wolves whimper in pain, some falling where they stand. The Wendigos snarl, thrown off balance. She runs to Nate, crying over his broken body. Sobs wrack through her. Her voice doesn’t sound like her own. It’s the heart-wrenching cry of a woman who lost her mate.

So, I go upstairs and grab a few things while the guards watch them. When I come back down, I notice two things before I begin to torture them. The minute I walk back downstairs with a hammer, chisel and pliers, the witch glares at the warlock before closing her eyes and starting to cry. Can witches cry? I didn’t think they feared anything or even had emotions? Perhaps I will work on her first and see if I can get her to tell me something.

Magic itself recoiled. The witches knew. They had pushed too far. “She’ll kill us all!” one of them cried. “Retreat! Now!” They chanted in unison, their bodies beginning to shimmer, vanishing into vapor and smoke. Disappearing into the seams of the realm, like cowards slipping through the cracks. Olivia let out a roar that shook the mountains in the distance, but it was too late. They were gone. All of them. Only silence remained. Her wings folded. Her body trembled—not from exhaustion, but restraint.

Then— Eyes. Not two. Seven. In a pattern not meant for sane minds. Eyes that looked into our souls and saw nothing worth keeping. Eyes that hated creation. “She’s awake,” I breathed, unable to stop the smile curving across my face. “And she’s hungry.” One of the younger witches sobbed. Her nose bled. Her skin began to turn blue. She fell to her knees. “Too much,” she whispered. “She’s eating me—”

As if each laugh held something bad. I clutched at Orion's hand. He did not flinch, but gave my fingers a hard squeeze of reassurance. We continued on further. The cave opened into a larger cave that was filled with a pale blue light that seemed to come from the rocks themselves. And that is where I saw the witches. They were seated on rock thrones in a wide semicircle. Twelve women. They were all elderly. Their skin was draped in folds and wrinkles like parched paper, their hair slithering in thick matted locks, their eyes hollow. But their eyes, God, their eyes, blazed with dagger fury, focused on us with wordless fury.

Everything except the lit candles on two sides of the white ash were affected. Regan also remained unshaken, glaring at the witches intently. Suddenly, a loud scream broke out from among them. One of the witches fell back and dropped. Regan was certain she was unconscious. “What's happening?” He asked cautiously. But the witches continued to chant. Again, another witch screamed and fell down unconscious. And again and again, until the witches that were left chanting had reduced to just six. Suddenly, they all stopped. One of them turned to Regan with wide eyes.

They were massive, their eyes glowing with an unnatural light, their movements sharp and predatory. They attacked without warning. Screams filled the air as the wolves tore through the village. People scrambled to protect their loved ones, but their spells fizzled, powerless against the onslaught. “Why aren’t their spells working?” I whispered, my voice choked with emotion. “The witch at the entrance,” Simone said, her voice trembling. “She’s bound their powers.” The scene unfolded like a nightmare I couldn’t wake from. Families were torn apart, children crying out for parents who couldn’t save them. My heart broke as I watched the devastation, tears streaming down my face.

Zane’s POV Alpha Miles’ eyes flew open in shock. The other men in line gasped. The witches eating the freshest werewolf paused momentarily, looking up to see what all the commotion was about. When they saw that it was just some man being stunned, they went back to eating. “NO!” Calista screamed from her cage. “Stop it! Please, Lucinda! Don’t do this!” Lucinda’s eyes were locked on Alpha Miles. She held out her hand and made a squeezing motion with her fist.

Trixie said, her eyes widen trying to figure out what the hell she just saw. The remaining witches went into attack mode, shooting energy bolts at Misty. She used her whip to deflect the energy bolts, swinging her whip from left to right. Trixie felt like she was looking at everything unfold in slow motion. The twins ran towards the witches, jumped into the air, flipped, Rayne appeared out of Misty’s back, and used her twin to push herself towards the witches. Rayne started swinging her whip as she flew through the air. By the time she landed, on the other side of the witches, they were just standing there with no expression on their faces.
