~HOLLY~ A soft chill dance through the air as Ella and I stroll down the street. It's the season of Christmas and so, the street is filled with Christmas decorations. Jingle bells chime from every corner—shop doors jingles open, children shake them playfully, and a distant choir let theirs ring like tiny stars. Christmas trees line the streets and windows, their twinkling lights blinking in warm, colorful rhythms. Snowflakes drift lazily from the sky, settling on rooftops and garlands, wrapping everything in a gentle, magical hush.

Lanie “Ring it, Lanie,” Mom encouraged me. Reaching forward, I rang the doorbell of the house half a block away from my parents’. The rest of the caroling group—mostly friends and neighbors of my mom’s, and none of them under fifty—bustled in excitement. Footsteps sounded on the other side of the door, and then it opened, a white-haired man looking at us all in surprise. “One, two,” Mom called out, and all six of us burst into a rendition of Jingle Bells. I mumbled along, hunching down in my jacket and wishing this was all over.

Tinsel shimmered beneath the winter sun. Children raced past with cookies shaped like animals and half bitten already. More lights draped the rooftops. There were bells hanging from the porch beams. Actual bells. Ringing as if possessed with joy.

Averys POV * * * * * * * * ”Jingle bells Jingle bells Jingle all the way-” I was skipping down the stairs and on my way to the kitchen to make some hot chocolate while singing Christmas tunes, as much I knew anyway. It's December 23rd and Christmas Day is tomorrow. If there is any time of the year that all my problems magically disappear, it's around Christmas. The only emotions allow inside the doors are happiness, relief, gratitude, and love. All other problems, issues, frustration, and disputes will have to wait until the 25th.
