“I wake early. Very early. Before the world becomes loud. That silence helps me think clearly.” She leaned in. “Routine?” “Very structured,” I said. “I start by rereading what I wrote the day before. I edit first, then continue. I write in blocks of time. Two hours of intense focus, then rest. Then repeat.” She scribbled something. “Do you plan everything before writing or discover the story as you go?” “A bit of both,” I admitted. “I outline major emotional turning points. But the characters… they surprise me. Sometimes they refuse to behave the way I planned.”

There was no need to drag her into it. Reaching into my backpack again, I get out my notebook, hoping for inspiration to strike as strongly as it did all those years ago. It takes a while, but it does, and I outline the next three chapters, seamlessly putting in a sword-fighting scene for Charles’s sake—that totally fits with the story. Usually, I don’t like to write longhand what I then have to go back and type, but the fight scene is so clear in my head I start writing it out—and then can’t stop.

"When you want to write a novel, make sure you do your researches and outline your plot. Plotting is very Important." I added, a little bit delighted they were paying attention "Your story has to begin with an interesting hook, make sure the prologue and first chapter creates a desire to read more, for your readers."

Jenna rushed over with jealousy burning in her eyes, clearly ready to hit me. I managed to dodge her, and the anger festering within me for two lifetimes immediately erupted. "You claim to have written this novel, but you have no proof!" That was when I opened my laptop. "I started writing this novel two years ago. I drafted an outline of the story arc and characters all in this laptop. The time stamp on the documents are clearly marked as well. This is—"

She said. "The only issue here is the fact that you are trying to get me to publish the book and I have said it times without number that I don't want to publish it. I don't have an outline for that book and I know you are going to say something about me never using an outline. I know I never use an outline but I always, always know where my story is going and how it is going to end. I have nothing planned for this particular book because it is not a work of fiction." I tried to reason with her.

If you feel more details are needed, or less for that matter I want to know. I have an outline of the general story, but as these characters grow some of them are starting to change and think differently than I had originally planned. My thinking is that I add an authors note a the end of 'book' 1 so to speak and re-write the synopsis to advise any new readers that it will be 2 books in one. Alternatively, the other idea I had was to just have a longer book, but I don't want the length to scare off new readers. Thanks in advance! :)

Aloha Lovely readers, Thank you so much for your patience as I contemplate next steps for this story. To be honest, deciding how to move forward has been a struggle for me. But I've finally made a decision and I'm ready to stick to it. You see, the novella I wrote for Rhett and Brynlee wasn't planned. It was a story that developed in my mind as I wrote Olivia's book, which is why I didn't write a longer book for them. I've had this entire series planned for a while and they just weren't in it. That was a lack of foresight on my part, I suppose.

For a long second—however long “second” meant here—I just floated there with the pen in my hand and the blank in front of me. Old instinct kicked in. Plot. Outline. Control. The urge to start sketching individual arcs, to decide exactly who went where and what they learned and how they cried along the way. I gripped the pen tighter until the urge passed. No. That wasn’t what this was. I wasn’t here to puppeteer every soul that would ever move through whatever came next. I wasn’t drafting a master novel where everyone hit my favorite tropes on cue.
