Writing A Novel Outline Novels & Stories

My fingers were cramping, my thesaurus was smoking, and I kept picturing my editor sending me an email with only one word: "Seriously?" I realized: I should just end it here, gloriously, before I completely lose my mind, break my keyboard, and start writing about the wallpaper pattern instead. Speaking of losing my mind... I pulled out my notes the other day. When I started outlining this story and figuring out the twists and turns, I came up with almost 60... maybe 50-something... different plot points and outlines just to keep the momentum going. Sixty! Fifty! I lost count! That's how dedicated I was to not making this story boring. That’s like a novella’s worth of rejected ideas!

"What if we're terrible at it? What if we get the deal and then can't actually write the book?" "Then we'll figure it out. Together." Samuel stopped walking, turning to face her. "You're spiraling again." "I'm allowed to spiral. This is a big deal." "It is. But it's also an opportunity. One we'd be stupid to pass up." Riley took a breath. "You're right. Okay. We write an outline. We see what happens." They spent the next two weeks glued to Riley's laptop, outlining their story. It was harder than Riley expected. Reliving the early days when she'd tried to fight the bond. Writing about the photo, the resignation, the suspension. Making it all coherent and compelling.

She had savings as well, but those had also been slowly decreasing month by month. When she pulled up her book outline, she started making notes to work through the plot holes she had come across as well as the backstory of each character. She had just started writing the first few pages, but her mind was elsewhere. After re-reading what she wrote, she thought that with some adjustments, she would have something to be proud of. Judging by the storyboard she had created, it was going to take her a long time to write the whole novel. She worked for a couple of hours, only stopping for a few moments to watch the sun as it rose from behind the building across the way and illuminated the trees in

"Ahh! Yeah, I remember how's your novel going on? Are you planning to put it as an entry for this coming International Contest?" I took my laptop, open it and handed it to her. " Look, it's kind of plain right now. I don't have any inspiration at the moment." She took my laptop and read my outline and prologue. The genre of my novel is Drama and at the moment I can't feel too much drama and that is why I barely have something to write on. After reading my outline, she looked at me and smiles awkwardly while closing my laptop, I knew it. "Uhm, you can still work on it, right? I mean it's okay but it's a little bit too plain if you'd ask me."

First I want to thank everyone who has followed Sky's journey this far. I have been writing this story for a year now and it is surreal that we are still here. When I started it was for a contest just to see if the thoughts in my head could be made into something tangable and it has grown to so much more. My outline and plot has grown and changed as I developed characters further and deeper than I ever expected. I have learned and grown as a writer in this whole process. This is my third book on this platform and by far my best and most thought out work.
