“Have you forgotten you were the one who denied her in front of the entire pack? Took a new mate and had her banished from the pack!” a voice countered.

“It was for the pack! I did it for the unity of the pack!” he argued, trying to convince himself.

“Deal with it then!”-The voice disappeared.

Alexa got up and started pacing the room. “She’s hiding in that small village.” She muttered.

“We will have to smoke her out then.” She said, the idea igniting a smile conclusively that as her final decision on this matter.

Thane was quiet but he didn’t like the idea. “Did you have the book in sight?” he asked the soldiers instead.

“No Alpha, but we believe she’s still in custody of it.” They responded.

“Good. Until we decide on what next to do, don’t breath a word of these to anyone!” He instructed.

Alexa turned to him, her jaw dropped slightly at his pronouncement. What could be his reason for keeping this a secret?

The soldiers bowed once more and saluted, making their way out. The metal door

They found her.Well, not really…They found her injured, unconscious body, not the Mira they all knew. The Mira they knew, died that night.A day passed, then two days… three… and a week. Nathan and Lira tried everything they could to help Mira move on from what was obviously a giant setback, all to no avail. Her wound healed, but she didn't.For the first two days after she woke up, which was about twelve hours after Nathan carried her on his back all the way back to the rogue village, she refused to speak to anyone. She didn't even cry, or yell. She just stayed silent. Her silence said all the words she wanted to say but couldn't, and only those who were really listening could hear her. Nathan was one of them, and it tormented him.Everytime he saw her silent and withdrawn in a corner away from everybody else, it broke him more than he could actually explain. She wouldn't even eat, and that distant look in her eyes was something he had never seen.He didn't know what to do. None of

NARRATOR'S POVNathan stayed awake the whole night. Despite the anger shimmering beneath his veins, he couldn't ignore the worry creeping up on him either. He wanted to.He really did. Especially after everything Mira had said to him. But the more he tried, the more he realized that his concern for her was something he had no control over.“Nathan.” A familiar voice called behind him. “I knew I'd find you here.”Lira showed up beside him, taking a seat on the rock which he was sitted on. “Are you okay?”Nathan didn't respond. He couldn't find the words to express himself at that moment.“You know she didn't mean any of it, right?” She continued. He shrugged. “I don't know.” He finally said, his voice gruffy like he hadn't used it in years. “I don't think I know her anymore.”Lira's hand found his arm. “Don't say that, babe. She's just confused and having it rough. We have to understand her, else no one will.”He scoffed. “How could she still trust him after everything? She called me

In one's life, it is very much expected to have that moment that shatters your heart completely, and unravels you in a very dangerously wrong manner. Maybe once, maybe twice.I'd lost count, however, of how many times my heart had been ripped right out of my chest.I'd lost count of how many times my poor heart had to face this kind of betrayal.I found myself thinking back to our plan before coming here. Was there any part of it that involved this? Because it had to be unreal. It couldn't be true. Not Luca too…After everything… after everything we'd faced together… he couldn't be betraying me too.“Mira, just hand over the seal and I'll protect you for the rest of your life.” Luca started. “I won't let anyone hurt you, I promise you. You just have to trust me.”I chuckled bitterly. “Listen to yourself.”“Mira, I didn't have a damn choice. You think I wanted to be born with the weight of having to betray everyone I care about.” His voice rose dangerously high. “You think I wanted to

Luca, could we perhaps turn back? The words I couldn't say. The words I dared not say.We waited for a patrol to pass, then slipped through the side. Every step felt like walking on eggshells. I kept my breathing shallow, mimicking Luca’s pace. He was a shadow in human form, moving like he belonged to the darkness itself. I, on the other hand, felt like a torch trying not to burn.We got to the library doors faster than I expected. The old wooden door had a very huge lock. “Can you pick the lock, Luca?” I asked.I had forgotten that Lira was the one who knew how to pick locks. Maybe she should have come with me.Luca didn't answer. Instead, he took three steps back, and came colliding forcefully with the door. It went off the hinges, falling to the ground with a thud.My lips fell apart. What the…?“After you,” He said.My nerves were fraying. “Gee, thanks.”Inside, the air was thick and dry, like a tomb. Dust coated everything, the bookshelves, the tables, the cracked floor tiles. I

MIRA'S POV“Mira, are you sure you want to do this?” Lira asked.I heaved, frustration escaping even when I tried to contain it. “Lira, you've asked me that like a hundred times.”Thane's letter had come early this morning. We had sent a message to him when we left the borders so he'd know where we were moving to. He asked for us to attack tonight, agreeing to cause a distraction so Alexa would hold off the ritual. It was the perfect time.Except that the rest of them didn't think so.“What am I expected to do? You want me to be comfortable with you going off to that territory all alone?”“I'm not alone.” I rolled my eyes. “Luca is coming with me. What is your problem?” I didn't mean to raise my voice, but I did.She stepped back, her wide eyes dimming. “Fine. Fine!”“Lira, I'm sorry.” I said, even though I knew I didn't fully mean it.“Just come back alive, Mira.”“I won't just come back alive. I'll come back with the seal.”Her brows rose, then fell without her saying a word. She tu

“We have to move the camp.” Luca said to Revik first thing the next morning.Revik’s face paled. “Why?”“Alexa has received word that we have returned, and that we're here, at the borders.” Luca explained. The news broke a ripple through the small crowd of villagers.“Don't panic. Everyone remain calm!” Revik commanded.A semblance of silence settled over the field, but the whispers remained.“How do you know this?” Lira asked, a question no one seemed to be concerned about.Until she asked.“She's right. How do you know this?” Revik repeated.Luca shifted his weight from the right leg to the left. “One of your patrol guards didn't return last night, did he?” Revik turned to the patrol guards, surprised by this piece of information. “Who didn't return?”“Tony, Marcey’s brother.” One of the guards answered.Revik's jaw clenched. “What do you know, Luca? What happened to Tony?”“Oh, nothing happened to him. Only that, he's about to be a Judas. I happened to come across him while trying
