Chapter 2 - Believe

"I can explain" said the naked man.

"You explain to the police" I said as I opened one of the drawers and took out a scalpel "Until I call the police, you're going to stay quiet there, because I have a scalpel and I'm not afraid to use it" I said as I pointed the scalpel at him.

"No need to call the police, I promise I won't do anything to you." he spoke trying to convince me and seemed to want to calm me down."

"I don't believe you!" I said and continued pointing the scalpel at him as I walked sideways "You're completely naked in front of me, and you think I'm going to believe your nonsense!?"

"I'm really not lying, please let's have a civil conversation" he spoke with his hands raised as if he was surrendering.

"And who's to say that you won't just wait for me to let my guard down to attack me!?" I said in an angry tone of voice because I didn't believe him.

"You will have to believe me" he said with his hands still raised and looking sad "You would take care of my wound, please believe me" he said lowering his gaze a little downcast.

As far as I remember I was going to take care of the wolf's wound, unless he... no, no, the real world is not a fictional story.

“I'm really telling the truth" he said still looking down and his tone of voice was sad and it really seemed like he was being sincere, I think I can trust him "And I was happy to have found my chosen one" he said as he looked up and I saw his sad eyes, but even with that little face, what he had just said, it didn’t leave my mind.

Find the chosen one!? Is he talking about me!? Geez, could he be some kind of stalker or serial killer!?

"Please stop looking at me with fear, I swear I won't hurt you" he said pouting at the end as he looked at me sadly.

Should I believe him? I can see from his eyes that he's not lying, but what if he's just a good actor!? I can't risk it, especially since he's naked. Unless he really could be that wolf like the stories I read about werewolves, but that would be impossible or not!?

"Look, I still don't trust you and as a precaution I'm going to call the police anyway and..." I'm interrupted by the man.

"I'm that wolf you brought that was hurt" he spoke with a serious expression "If you want proof just look at my leg" he said as he pointed down.

And that's when I noticed he was wearing some kind of bracelet on his wrist.

"Mate believe me please" he said as he clasped his hands together and pouted.

"Mate?" I asked confused as I pointed at him because he called me that and he smiled showing that he had dimples and nodded.

Why dimples!? I think people with dimples are cute, this is not fair! I will never fall for the charms of dimples! I still don't trust him and he seems like a pervert...

"That's what my species calls our chosen one, and, not knowing your name" he said while smiling and making me come out of my thoughts

"Why is Mate?" I asked curiously.

"Mate it is short for "soulmate" because we were chosen by the moon goddess to be each other's to love and live happily, and because you are only mine, just as I am only yours" he said while smiling and blushing at the end.

This is weird, especially because it seems like he's trying to mark his territory while calling me that.

"Are you saying we would be each other's property!?" I said, arching one of my suspicious eyebrows and still pointing the scalpel in his direction.

"Please believe me Mate!" he pleaded "I can prove that I am the wolf that brought it."

"So, prove it!" I said in a serious voice.

And at that moment I saw red fur ears appearing on his head and of course my eyes widened, then I saw a wolf's tail and I saw his eyes turn green like a wolf's, and because of that I ended up dropping the scalpel, I noticed that there was reddish fur growing on his face and before I knew it there was a reddish-furred wolf with green eyes on top of that stretcher looking at me and I fell to the floor sitting with my mouth open and eyes wide open.

"I can't believe what I'm seeing," I said as I looked at the red-furred wolf.

"Well, believe me," he said, surprising me.

"You speak in your wolf form!?" I said, almost shouting in surprise.

"Yeah" he said, nodding.

"Why didn't you say anything before!?" I asked while I was standing up.

"Because we weren't alone and you might freak out" he replied calmly.

"I think I'm going crazy, this can't be real" I said and pointed at him.

"But Mate, it is real," the reddish wolf said.

"That's what you say," I said, pointing at him. "What if you're all in my head?" I asked more to myself than to him. "Could it be that I'm having a dream and I didn't even realize I was asleep!?" I said, running one of my hands through my brown hair out of nervousness.

"It's not a dream," said the wolf. "Please believe what you see and don't reject me," he said as his ears lowered and I could tell he was sad.

"I'll take care of your wound and then I'll think about whether or not you're real," I said as I tried to remain calm about what I had just seen.

"Okay, but please think carefully" the wolf said with his ears still lowered.

After taking care of the wounds of that red-furred wolf that I discovered can become human, I'm trying not to freak out after he told me that he always looked for me and that he was happy to finally find me, but knowing that I don't believe in him makes him sad even though he understands why.

I hope I'm really not crazy and that he's really telling the truth about not hurting me.

"Gabriel" I said as I turned and looked at him who was still lying on the stretcher and in his wolf form looking at me "I choose to believe it's real," I said and saw his ears stand up and his tail started to wag, showing that he was happy.

He stayed in his human form, standing up, coming close to me and then hugging me naked.

"You won't regret it, my love" he said as he hugged me.
