Chapter 5 - Discussion and discovery

"And why shouldn't I be by my chosen one's side?" Gabriel said, confused.

"Chosen!?" Arthur said in disbelief as he looked at Gabriel, his expression changed to angry "Stay away from her!" he said as he stood in front of me as if he wanted to protect me.

"Arthur, it's okay" I said, but he still looked angrily at Gabriel "He won't hurt me" I said putting my hand on his shoulder, he looked back and his expression showed concern.

"How can you be so sure?" Arthur asked in a sad tone of voice as he looked at me.

"I'm not so sure, but something tells me I should trust him" I answered honestly and Arthur looked at me confused "I know it's confusing, but so far he doesn't seem to have lied about anything he's told me."

"And who's to say he won't hurt you when you least expect it!?" Arthur said as he arched one of his eyebrows "He might be telling the truth now just to get you to let your guard down, then he will stab you in the back."

"I won't hurt her, I will never break her trust in me" Gabriel said with a serious expression.

"Don't interfere, dog" Arthur spoke as he looked at Gabriel.

"Arthur" I said scolding him and Arthur just looked at me, but then he looked back at Gabriel.

"I'm a wolf," Gabriel said feeling indignant.

"I didn't ask you, besides I'm not stupid" Arthur said in an irritated tone "You're like a dog, because you have to do everything that council tells you!"

"You're starting to irritate me," Gabriel said in an angry tone of voice and his eyes were turning red.

"Do you want a bone to calm down, dog?" Arthur asked in a mocking tone and Gabriel growled in response. Arthur laughed and then continued mocking "That's it, keep barking, but just remember that I don't know how to talk to dogs. Besides, you wag your tail at the council while lying on your back or just stay-..."

"Arthur, stop teasing him!" - I said irritably as I slapped his arm a few times.

"Ouch!" - Arthur said, moving away from me to escape the slaps. He put his hand where I had slapped him and said, "Why did you hit me?" he asked me in disbelief.

"Are you seriously asking me that!?" I said irritably as I crossed my arms "You were teasing him, Arthur, I can't believe you did that because you don't usually act like that!"

"But Van," Arthur said in a sad tone of voice.

"No 'buts' Arthur, you're being an idiot acting like this" I said seriously "He didn't do anything to you, much less hurt me for you to act like this."

"But he might hurt you later!" Arthur spoke seriously and with an irritated tone of voice, mixed with concern "He's just waiting for you to let your guard down, why don't you realize that!?"

"Just because that happened in the past doesn't mean he's the same!" I said in an angry tone of voice.

"Guys, we don't need to fight" Gabriel spoke in a calmer tone of voice "Let's calm down fir-..." he was interrupted by me and Arthur.

"Don't interfere!" I spoke along with Arthur and our voices were angry.

Gabriel sighed and raised his arms as if to show that he had surrendered, Arthur and I went back to arguing.

"Vanessa, all alphas are the same!" Arthur said and I looked at him in surprise.

"I can't believe you said that Arthur, you're the one who always said that we should never judge someone before getting to know them!" I said hurt and it was at that moment that he realized he had said something stupid. "Just because there were alphas who did something stupid doesn't mean he would be the same, you idiot!" I said and Yoongi looked at me while biting his lips nervously

"Vanessa, I just..." Arthur stopped talking because he was hesitating, he sighed deeply and continued "I'm just worried about you" he said sadly.

"I know, but that doesn't justify you judging him," I said.

Arthur just lowered his head, then he only raised it when Gabriel made a fake cough.

"I know you don't trust me" Gabriel said seriously "Because there were a lot of idiot alphas in the past, unfortunately there are also in this generation and I believe you must know what some have already done and they still try to do it with some human women and children" he said in a tone of voice that I realized was angry.

"It's good that you have knowledge about what the idiots of your race do," Arthur said seriously. "It's the least of it."

"Arthur!" I said, scolding him.

"He's right Mate" Gabriel said "The least I can do is be aware, but taking action is another story and you can rest assured that I have done that."

"You're an alpha lupus!?" Arthur said and Gabriel just nodded "Wait, does that mean Van is your chosen one?" he asked and I could tell he was apprehensive about the answer.

Gabriel just nodded in response, Arthur had a worried expression and I saw his eyes get teary!?

"Why her?" Arthur asked in a sad tone of voice, but Gabriel didn't say anything and that only made Arthur angry "Say something, damn it!"

"My wolf chose her" Gabriel spoke.

"Of all the women in the world, your wolf was right to choose my friend!?" Arthur said worriedly, his eyes still watery.

"She is a descen..." Gabriel was interrupted by Arthur.

"Fuck who she's descended from" Arthur shouted in frustration "In these last years, in no generation has this happened!" he spoke with a shaky voice and you could tell he was holding back his tears and that made me sad "Why in my generation and with my friend too!?" he said between sobs "Do you know what could happen to her if your wolf is wrong!"

After Arthur finished speaking, he fell to his knees and burst into tears, and that worried me to the point that I went to him.

"Arthur" I said as I hugged my friend and he hugged me back tightly while crying.

"Van, If you're not his chosen one," Arthur said between sobs as he hugged me, "The sacrifice will be you."

I will be the sacrifice!?

"Why did it have to be you!?" Arthur spoke between sobs in my arms.
