CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

2026-04-27 18:39:29I remembered I needed to call Beatrice; it always slips my mind to call her, so let me give her a call now before I forget again.
“ Hi Beatrice, sorry I didn't get back to you as promised for a long time. How are you coping? I have an offer for you if you would like it”.
“Hello ma'am, I am good. What do you have for me?. She is eager to know.
“ I am opening a beauty station soon. The posts of a receptionist and a manager are open for you to choose from. Would you like to work for me?” I want a sincere answer from her.
“ I would like to work in your studio, I have been jobless since the incident happened. She reminded me that I made her jobless again.
“ I thought as much, that's why I am giving you the post on a platter of gold without going through any process. I said.
“Which one would you like to go for out of the two posts? Bring your credentials to the address I will send to you later for documentation”.
“I would go for the manager post, thanks so much I won't disappoint you.” I can sense her happiness from the end of the call.
That being settled, I cleared my conscience of being the reason for her joblessness.
I got to Roselyn's place and met her in a meeting with her co-workers. She came to me after their meeting.
“I am sorry for keeping you waiting”. She said immediately she sat down.
I brought out the documents of the applicants, their practical works, and the things I jotted down.
After enough scrutiny, the applicants were carefully selected.
We chose seven lucky people as those who will be working with me for a start. Which are:
A receptionist
Two nail technicians
Two spa technicians
Two hair stylists.
“You will also need a manager for the studio, which I can't see anybody applying for here”.
“ The lady Lawson fired the other day would be the manager, I contacted her already”. I answered her.
“I can get a cleaner from the agency if I am ready. That makes us ten in total, we are complete for a start and we are good to go” I am in a happy mood.
Everything is set now but I think it will be a good idea to throw a small party for the grand opening.
“Roselyn, what do you think about us having a small party to open the studio” I needed her opinion.
“ That's a great idea, let's dive into the preparation. Firstly you should post on all your social media handles, indicate the date and venue of the event, let them know there will be free samples like nail painting, quick make-up touch-up, free simple hair styles, and so on. That will make them come in multitudes when they hear free things. Invite your family and friends, nearby business owners and we are good to go”. She explains how to go about it.
“We can also sell something to them on that day, maybe at a reduced price. Things like
Make up kits, nail quick fix packages etc at a budget-friendly rate”. I also suggested.
“ Yes we can do that too, it's a nice idea”. Roselyn commented.
I left Roselyn’s place happy and fulfilled. I got home and informed Caroline about the studio grand opening and she was happy for me.
I tried calling Mom but her lines were not going through, so I called Dad.
“ Hello Dad, long time. I officially invite you to my beauty studio’s grand opening which is coming up on Friday 24th of October 2025, at 3 pm. I will be glad if my invitation is honoured.”
“I am so proud of you girl, I know you would be successful in life. When have you been planning this? Alright I will surely be there”.
“ I have been planning it for a while now, Mom's number is not going but I will call her back to inform her too, thanks Dad”.
I called so many people that I know and want to be there. I called Grace too but she didn't pick and I gave up.
I tried Mom's number again and she picked up immediately.
“ Mom, how is your health, hope you are good now. Sorry for not checking up on you always. I finished setting up my beauty studio and the grand opening will come on Friday, the 23rd of October 2025. Will you be available to honour my invitation?” I asked stylishly
“ Of course I would be there, thank you, my daughter” she said.
“ Please help me inform Grace, she didn't pick up my call”.
“ I will do just that, she might be busy picking up calls”. She gave an excuse on her own behalf.
I waited for Lawson to get back before I retired to the bed but to no avail. When it was some minutes to 12 pm and he wasn't back, I went to bed and didn't see him come back for the night.
I didn't see his car downstairs in the morning either.
“ Caroline, has Lawson left for the office this morning?” I asked to clear my doubt.
“ No, he didn't come home yesterday and I have not seen him today either”. She said
We heard the door open and he walked in with his rough dirty clothes.
“ You are welcome” Caroline greeted him.
“ Lawson, I waited for you all night before I finally slept off, where are you coming from this morning?” I asked him gently
“ I don't have time for this early morning chit chat, I need to get to work”. He rushed upstairs to freshen up and change into a new suit and trousers.
I went upstairs to meet him.
“My beauty studio is ready, the grand opening is coming up on Friday 24th of October 2025. I would like you to honour my invitation. Come and
See what I put in place”.
He didn't answer, and he left for work without saying anything.
