The Castillo's Pride 1: One Shot at Destiny

“Alpha Declan, the broken area is still very risky. You can't get close to it yet!”

“The group’s health team is told. The ambulance will come soon!”

“Alpha Declan!”

"Go quick!" he yelled, Alpha weight falling on all there.

"If a thing happens to her due to your wait I’ll pull every one of you to the afterworld with me!"

In the loud racket hitting her ears, a strong Alpha growl pulled Zara back to waking. 

With great effort, she turned her head.

Through foggy sight, she saw a big, known shape rushing to the spot like a hero sent by the Moon Goddess herself.

Tears streamed down Zara’s face instantly.

She was stuck in the flipped car for a long time after the crash, and she thought her mate would not come.

Before the accident, they had argued.

They were meant to meet at the pack's main office but Declan suddenly called it off after getting a call.

No matter how often she tried to get to him after that, he never replied.

Then the collision happened.

With the last bit of energy left on her phone, Zara sends her spot to a Declan’s Beta.

She thought it would be neglected like all the other things she had sent over the years.

But now he was here.

“Dear, don't fear,” she said softly, holding her tummy. “Dad is here”

Her look went down, to the blood gathering under her, wetting the seat.

Her wolf whimpered weakly.

She tried to call his name.

But her voice was weak, broken by hurt and loss of blood.

It didn’t matter. He had found her.

Zara lifted her shaking hand, fingers quaking as she tried to wave.

Yet in the next heartbeat.

Alpha Declan Jordan ran straight past her.

Zara froze.

For a sec, she thought if she had confused him for another guy.

Today, she wasn’t driving the team car from the Jordan place, the one Declan knew best.

That vehicle had been taken by her sister-in-law.

This auto was a present from her mom. It is one she hardly used.

It made sense.

He hadn’t recognized it.

She tried to yell again, but only a weak whine came from her lips, it w͏as so soft that it wasn’t louder than the call of a hurt puppy.

Declan didn’t hear her.

He ran to the white auto that hit her from the back.

He pulled the door wide and picked up a shaking woman in his arms.

Slender. Fragile. Delicate.

The type of she-wolf that made a natural feeling to guard.

When Zara looked at her, her heart dropped into a deep hole.

Marina.

Declan's first love. The lady wolf he had never really let go of!

Zara thought of how the pale auto had turned wildly, giving her no time to dodge the hit before crashing into her.

Now it sat still by the road like a pure thing.

And its owner lay safely in her Alpha’s embrace.

Zara quit asking why Marina, who should be far off, was here.

Why did luck make her the one to bump into Zara’s car?

Her mind could only think of one thing.

Her pup.

“Alpha Declan! There’s still a person stuck in the other car!”

A group guard s͏aw a stir inside the flipped car and yelled.

Declan turned his head at last.

A lady soaked in blood. A lady bleeding forever.

Even with her sad state, her face was still pretty.

Still familiar.

His lips parted slightly.

But then Marina made a small noise in hurt in his arms.

Declan stiffened instantly.

“Marina is injured,” he ordered coldly.

 “Take her to the Pack Infirmary. Now.”

“But Alpha.”

One quick look from Declan made the guard quiet.

“Yes, Alpha.”

Zara looked on as her friend gave one last look at her.

Then turned away.

He carefully placed Marina into the vehicle.

“Declan please,” Zara tried to cry.

 “Save our pup.”

Blood filled her throat, choking her voice.

No one heard her.

No one looked back.

Declan’s auto zipped away fast, taking with it the one person he had ever really loved.

Zara looked as the car went far away.

Her vision blurred.

Her heart broke under a rush of pain so big that even her wolf couldn't howl any more.

Darkness swallowed her once more.
