they screamed, and multiple guards rushed forward, pulling at my arms and hair.
I looked past them toward a large torch mounted on the wall near the fireplace and soon enough, the place was burning.
With that distraction, the others stopped pulling at me, their eyes fixed on their comrade who was now a screaming pillar of light.
"Fire can be a living, breathing thing," I said, my voice sounding hollow and distant. "Did you know that?"
The fire didn't stop there.
It grew, spreading across the floor and up the tapestries.
The men scrambled for the door, but the wood had warped in the heat; the handle was too hot to touch, searing the flesh off their palms.
