Sarah replied, clicking her safety off. They moved out of the alley, back into the maze of a darkened world. Somewhere above, a single light flickered—an angry, isolated spark of violet—followed by the steady, inevitable thud of thousands of unseen, automated feet shifting in the dark, preparing to claim the city.
