HAYDEN I'm slumped over the toilet again, one arm braced on the rim, the other wrapped around my stomach. My throat burns. The third heave brings up nothing but bile and air, but my body keeps trying anyway, as if it can purge the images that crawled inside my skull the second I opened that journal. I flush, lean back against the cool wall, and let my head thud back. The room spins lazily. I close my eyes and try to breathe through my mouth, but every inhale drags Rachel's handwriting with it.

Rohan told her and she reluctantly did so. She smiled as she placed her hand on his shoulders. Just as soon as his hand wrapped her waist, she noticed Damien staring at her behind Rohan. “Damien?” she called and immediately, her legs wobbled. The heel from her shoe broke, and she fell to the floor, while the crowd gasped.

Pull too hard and the line snaps; keep it humming and it sings. The second fall isn’t a collapse. It’s a choice disguised as gravity. I open my laptop and cue the security feed—not the live view, the recording. She’ll be halfway down the block by now, turning her phone over in her hand, debating whether to delete the number she swore she’d never use. She won’t. Curiosity is stronger than disgust, always. The plan has rhythm again. Tomorrow, the Heliograph coordinator will follow up with the formal offer. The bookstore panel waits at week’s end. Two crossings more and the distance between us won’t feel like coincidence anymore; it will feel like design.

I felt myself falling, with the forces of gravity pulling me down in every direction. I shut my eyes, not wanting to see how I would die.

I voiced out. "And whose fault was that?" she said glaring at me. Your psychotic mind, I mumbled beneath my breath, just then she decided to drop one of her crutches, she tried to make it look like an accident but failed miserably. She's going to be the death of me, mumbled before adding a string of curse words to the statement. I hurried over to her and supported her falling figure by putting my hand around her waist leading her to the nearest table. I ignore how right it felt to place my hand around her waist or how she seemed to fit perfectly in my arms every time I carry her. I went to pick up the fallen crutch and made my way back to her.

Cerise and Nicholas rode through the chaos that ensued, looking up, there were meteorites passing along the atmosphere, one strong gravitational pull and it's over for the land it crashes on. Agatha looked at the few people beside her feet. “Ah. Just now, I forgot to mention that the gravity was too strong and the rope should have been sturdier.” Esmeralda got up and looked completely upset. She just fell flat on her buttocks on a bloody white bone, causing her pants to be stained with blood. She looked as if she had an accidental menstrual leak. Alex took Dorothy’s hand.
