A Bark in the Park
I nodded and went back to outlining the letters in protect, filling them in like the ink could hold back whatever storm was quietly building outside our bubble of hand-painted signs and half-finished hopes.
The door creaked open just as I finished my third sign, this one reading THIS PARK HAS ROOTS. Rufio bounded inside, tail wagging as he made a beeline for Lilac, his nose nuzzling her leg like she was a long-lost friend. Alan followed behind, tugging the door shut with his foot as he peeled off his jacket.
“Guess who chased a chipmunk into a bush and then got stuck,” he said with a faint smirk, brushing a leaf from Rufio’s flank.
