However, he stepped closer anyway. “Elara.” “Do not,” I said softly. “Do not what?” He asked. “Do not look at me like this,” I said. “Like what?” “Like I am falling apart.” Ruin’s voice softened. “You are allowed to fall apart.” “I am not.” “Yes, you are.” “Not in this world.” “In this room, you are.” I closed my eyes. The tears came anyway; I could not stop them anymore. Everything I had been holding in finally broke.

Everything I had been holding together… shattered. My knees nearly gave out, but Darius was already there, his arms catching me, pulling me against him as if he had been waiting for this moment. For me to finally break. “I can’t..” My voice cracked, the words dissolving into something incoherent as the weight of everything crashed down on me all at once. “I can’t do this.. Darius, I’m tired.. I..” My fingers clutched at him desperately, like if I let go, I would fall apart completely.

I was already breaking. And this time, I wasn't sure I'd pick up the pieces of myself back together again.

I smile to myself. Let the pieces fall.

My hand dropped limply by my side. I let out a cry, the pain in my chest unbearable. I fell to my knees, sobbing, gasping, clutching at myself like I could hold the pieces of my heart together. I was broken. Utterly, hopelessly broken.

But this break, painful as it was, reminded me that sometimes you have to fall apart to find out what truly holds you together. And that’s exactly what we were going to do—together.

It wasn’t just a fall; it was a complete collapse of who I used to be. Summoning the last reserves of my strength, I tried to turn over and push myself up. My arms trembled violently, and I collapsed back, defeated yet again. "Why can’t I do this?" I yelled, the words clawing their way out of my throat in a scream that seemed to shatter the silent room.

But right now, I didn’t know if I was strong enough. All I knew was that everything was falling apart, and I didn’t know how to put the pieces back together.
