The sound of the gunshot exploded in my ears, a deafening blast that left me reeling. My vision blurred. Time seemed to slow as I struggled to process what was happening. For a few disorienting seconds, I was lost in a haze of confusion and fear. My ears kept ringing, and my head spun. I couldn't hear anything except the piercing whine of tinnitus. "Are you okay?" Sorin's voice was a distant echo, muffled and unclear. I felt his arms wrapped tightly around me, his warm breath on my face, but his words were hazy and muffled, fading in and out like an inconsistent radio signal.

Even though it is just some gibberish, I am so glad to have recovered my hearing. The noises start becoming increasingly louder until they turn into screams, shaking the inside of my head painfully. I believe they come from a woman, somehow it feels that way. Maybe I am still inside the bus, maybe someone is crying for help. My uneasiness grows as I continue being unable to wake up, I want to scream, to run, to know where the voices come from. As my desperation reaches its limit, I start to feel an indescribable numbness surrounding my body. I still cannot move my legs or arms, but I can feel them there; they are tiny, weak, entirely different from the way they felt before.

I was confused but I had no one to ask or tell about what happened. Five in the afternoon, I was on my way home, just meters away from our house. I suddenly felt an extreme pain in my head. Then I heard a shrill tone that seemed to pierce my ears. I kneeled on the grass as I covered my ears with both hands. I shouted in pain but I couldn’t hear myself. All I could hear was a high-pitched tone. I closed my eyes as the tone was suddenly replaced by noises from everything around me. I could hear voices, engines, traffic, and everything that wasn’t even present in our vicinity. Everything sounded similar from the capital but I was kilometers away, making it impossible to hear those sounds.

a deep voice tells me, and I do just as I am told. I breathe slowly, my heart hurting as my senses slowly come back, synching with the surroundings again. Nobody seems to be shouting anymore, and apart from a few whispers, I can’t hear anything, which freaks me out even more. Now that my vision is refocusing again, I try to move my head to look at the animal lying next to me to convince me that I’m not totally gone insane, but to no avail. “I’m good. Can you please let me stand up, now?” I mumble along, my consciousness slowly fading as I slur a few pleas again for them to let me go.

I kept muttering to myself. I stood up to join Yolanda in the kitchen, my head started spinning, my ears were ringing and the world turned white. I heard voices so I tried to talk to them but no one heard me, I could see them but they did not notice that I was awake. The noise was so loud in my ears, " Can anybody hear me? I'm feeling hungry and I want to eat." I kept repeating those words but nobody heard, I saw doctors and nurses running around to save me.

What would happen to my babies? I want to hug them one last time. I want to scream for help, but I can’t get my limbs to move. The muffled voices of people flow into my ears — but I could only be imagining it. I drift in and out of consciousness. Helpless whimpers are the only sounds my lips can spill out. The sound of my door being ripped open jerks me from my unconscious state, but I am unable to peel my eyes open. I hear a sharp, muffled intake of breath, and aggravated voices follow. I try to focus on my surroundings, but the loud ringing in my ears won’t let me.

Then her mind went blank and she was not sure for how long. * * * The next time she regained some sort of consciousness, there were noises everywhere. They drowned out everything, she could not hear anything else. She could not even hear herself think and when she tried to think there would only be more noises. What made it worse was that she could not even bring herself to open her eyes. Her eyelids felt heavy. Her whole body felt numb, she could not even feel her own hands or toes.

Or something? I couldn't feel my body as well. I feel like I am being chained down the soft bed underneath me but I don't feel any heavy object around me. I can hear voices but they sound gibberish in my ears. What is the only real thing for me right now is that I know I am awake… that my brain is perfectly working but my whole body is being paralyzed and I have no control over it. This kind of condition stayed for I have no idea how long. I wish I could understand what people are talking around me but all I can hear are distant, incomprehensible noises and the sound is so distorted in my ears that it is too hard to identify whose voice I am hearing.

All I can hear now is cries from Joseph, and my mum's screams and cries. I can not even open my eyes. What happen to me? I can not react to anything that is happened around me. I try to speak out a word, but there's nothing coming out. What happen to me? What happen? ***

The back of my head hits the counter and I drop like a rock. My vision turns white and I lay there unmoving. I hear a muffled voice but I can't register who it is. Then I feel rushed footsteps leave my side and I realize I'm alone now. I wonder if Dahlia cares enough to get me help. I close my eyes and scoff. I faintly hear a voice calling for me in my head but I can't hear them as my world turns black.
