Stars POV- I woke up covered in sweat, I barely slept having nightmares all night and these cuffs cutting into my skin, leaving them feeling raw and bloody. I knew Willow didn’t get any sleep because of me. I looked over seeing the sun streaming through the window, I had no idea what time it was though. “Willow, wake up.” I started to try and shove her with my shoulder to wake her up. Her eyes slowly started to open, barely looking up at me.

Then a single word appeared: AWAKENING: IN PROGRESS "What's awakening?" I asked. But before Kieran could answer, alarms started blaring again. Tyra's voice echoed through the corridors: "More contacts! They're coming from all directions!" I looked at Kieran. "How many?" "Too many." The screen behind me flashed again: DEFENSIVE PROTOCOLS: ACTIVATED CORE ACCESS: AVAILABLE AUTHORIZATION REQUIRED "It's asking for authorization," I said. "Don't," Kieran said quickly. "Not yet. You don't know what you're unleashing."

"Because the seal is breaking, and when it does, you must be ready." A sudden, sharp pain shot through my body. I gasped, clutching my chest as heat seared through my veins. My vision blurred, and the white space around me cracked, like shattered glass. "What’s happening to me?" I cried out. "The awakening has begun," she said, her voice distant. "You must—" Her words cut off as the world around me shattered completely. I jolted awake, gasping for air. The cold water of the lake surrounded me, but something was wrong. The surface was no longer calm... it moved violently, glowing with an eerie silver light. My limbs felt heavy as if something was pulling me down.

"If you don't want to live, then you can die too." To my surprise, that one strike had not only killed Tyler but also awakened Evelyn. But Edith had already stopped listening to Evelyn's words. She stared blankly ahead, like her soul had left her body. I followed her gaze. It was where Tyler had fallen. I sighed and left the hospital.

I lick my lip to try and feel out what's so wrong, only to find teeth sharp and long, and a sensation of fur around the edges. I wolfed. I’m a wolf, and I shake it off, shake my head to bring my sight back to clear and fuzz-free, so I can turn and see the others around me. A weird movement that’s ungraceful and dog-like, that knocks me off balance. Nearby, a smaller wolf sits and looks at its paws, as I was, yet it glows too. Blue and surreal, as though the moon has rolled down to illuminate us with her touch, and it’s eerily pretty. Something I have never seen before at an Awakening. They don’t seem to be in pain anymore, either, and I wonder if the worst has passed. None of them is crying

The silver network erupted with a brilliant, blinding light that illuminated the entire planet. The Witness opened its massive eye to its absolute limits. The fracture shook violently, and reality itself bent and warped around the platform. In that singular, terrifying moment, every single ancient being realized the exact same horrifying truth. Ava wasn't just recovering her memories. She was awakening. The Architect's face went completely pale, her voice a breathless gasp of horror. "No." The End took a massive step forward, its voice a deep, vibrating warning that shook the earth. IT IS TOO SOON. THE CONTAINER CANNOT HOLD.

Inside the room, Sarah slowly raised her head, her eyes clouded with a blank, lifeless stare as she looked directly at the silver microphone in Commander Vance's hand. Commander Vance leaned down, whispering a single line of text into Sarah's ear: "Repeat after me, Sarah. ‘The lotus blooms in the dark... awaken the army.’" Sarah's dry lips opened slowly, her weak voice beginning to form the very first word of the global activation phrase: "The..." Noah stared through the glass wall in complete, helpless terror, knowing that if Sarah finished that single sentence, thirty-six clone brothers across Manhattan would awaken as mindless weapons, and his family would be destroyed forever.

“Only if you do not need me to help,” Martha chuckled and softly slipped her arm into mine, so we were walking, not as guard and prisoner but as companions. “Only if you tell me all about it,” causing me to giggle as the huge double doors opened and the wall of steam greeted us. Once she had attended to two other girls she helped to wash my long blonde hair with a water jug. “Martha, what is the Awakening?” She sighed, “you’re obviously a bit older than most but you’ve been sheltered. It is the period when you first meet and eventually are accepted by a wolf spirit. Normally happens when you’re a teenager.”

Adira’s POV Cold water hits my face like an iceberg, and I quickly open my eyes to see that I am surrounded by a group of men I have never seen before. Realizing I am naked, I sit up and pull my legs into me as they all stare at me and I look around at their faces not recognizing any of them. That’s when I began to try and see my surroundings as my head felt foggy.
