She grabbed a plate and scooped rice, but before she could eat her first spoonful, Regine spoke.
“By the way, Ate. Mama called earlier. She said Papa hasn’t gone to work for three days. He has a fever.”
The weight on her shoulders came back. Along with the guilt, worry also settled in. No matter how much she tried to focus on her own life and work, she couldn’t deny that family should always come first.
“Okay, I’ll send money tomorrow,” she said calmly, even though she felt her stomach tighten with stress.
