The old Hawthorne Mansion loomed like a gothic dream on the outskirts of the English countryside. Sophia had taken the live-in personal assistant position three weeks ago, managing the estate’s affairs for the reclusive owner who was rarely present. The real enigma of the house, however, was Mr. Elias Blackwood, the butler. Elias was perfection incarnate. Mid-thirties, tall and elegantly built with broad shoulders, dark hair was always styled and a sharp jaw.

A young woman, after all, was never sure when a suitable suitor may come calling. A cadaverous person dressed in black livery suddenly appeared just above her left shoulder as she tilted her head to the side to view her reflection. “Wilbury!" she exclaimed as she put her palm to her racing heart. "You need to quit sneaking up on me like that. I would have assumed you were a vampire if you hadn't had a reflection.” The butler's puckered face was sporting its usual frown, but there was a distinct sparkle of delight in his rheumy eyes. You know that Master Julian has returned home, right?”

Whilst Sasu were in attention, his shadow wiggle a little bit, then suddenly that very shadow slowly turned real, and formed, my Arch Lich, immortal Butler, that always smiling as he saw me.

His eyes swished past the butler to land on me as I neared. “Mrs. Blackwood.” Butler Su dipped his head slightly in respect. My eyes fell on Dominic and our eyes met. He looked so calm, like he didn’t just see my boobs hanging in the air less than an hour ago. I sighed for the fiftieth time that morning. “That’s it,” Dominic dismissed. Butler Su nodded. “You are always welcome back, Mrs. Blackwood,” said Butler Su. I nodded at him. Definitely not returning here even if the heavens tried to convince me. I walked toward the sleek black car.

Without a word, he climbed the stairs and disappeared into the upper floor. Cynthia blinked. A strange mixture of relief and disappointment settled inside her chest. Moments later, another man approached. He appeared to be in his late fifties, dressed in a dark suit. "Miss Hart." His voice was polite. Cynthia turned toward him. "My name is William Foster. I am the butler of Blackwood Estate." She offered a small smile. "Nice to meet you." "Please follow me." The butler picked up her small bag and led her toward a grand staircase. As they walked, Cynthia couldn't help noticing how enormous the mansion was.

"Don't worry, I made a few arrangements about a place you'll sleep tonight. Tessa can't sleep there. You'll have to come back after we've left. He needs you, don't give up on him" "You should see how happy he is with her. He doesn't need me, not as much as he does need her" "Whatever, get in" he said taking the drivers seat. The butler was a very interesting man. When he said about nature rewarding me he was referring to himself. Behind the shadows he was the one looking out for Blake and I was just his mouthpiece. And that was because he owed Blake's oppressors his loyalty and he was taking a huge risk to look out for him.

"How are you so sure who's going to die, you bastard? To hell with you!" The man in the black robes turned into a black shadow as he charged towards Wilbur. Wilbur broke out running as well when the man in the black robes leaped into the air. The man raised his samurai sword while roaring, "Black Panther Slayer!" All at once, a ball of black miasma appeared before morphing into a black panther that let out a terrifying roar, charging toward Wilbur. Wilbur turned his defense into an attack at once, taking half a step forward as he blocked the thunder cleaver in front of his chest.

“Snap!” What followed was the sharp snap of the man’s fingers. As if performing sorcery, the room lit up the moment he snapped. As the room brightened, Butler Thomas dropped to one knee in a respectful bow, one hand braced on the other knee. “My Lord.” The man turned, facing Butler Thomas when he heard his voice. He was dressed in ancient regal black attire, as though it belonged to a long-forgotten dynasty. His hair was long and dark, like darkness itself, falling down his back.

I cut him off impatiently as we geared towards the front door. It abruptly opened and in front of us was an old butler. My eyes narrowed, he looked human. To make more caution, I threw a dose of wolfsbane powder at him. It had no effect, only making him cough instead with a frown on his face. “Can I help you gentlemen?” “He seems human.” Sebastian whispered from behind me. I scowled deeply, “We’re looking for someone. Asher Blackwood and Aurora Thompson to be precise.” I studied his face greatly for any sign of a facade, he remained stoic, eyes expressionless, “I don’t think I know who that is.”
