I convinced myself it was normal because there was already so much unnormal in my world. The minute the shower warms up, I step in, letting the warm water wash over my body as the blood taints the water turning it various shades of red from pale red to a fruit punch color. The brown and black from the dirt swirls with the bloody water. I close my eyes for a moment, trying to let my mind calm from the chaos reeling in my mind.

I hover my bleeding palm over the bowl and let the blood drip into the bowl. I watch as our blood drops swirl around in the bowl as if playing a wresting match, then they swirl in the water before finally joining together. Their juncture emanates a hissing voice and for a second I fear that the initiation will be rejected, that the blood drops won’t mix. Instead, our blood mixes seamlessly in the water and I watch in awe as the liquid in the water becomes dark. The liquid leaves its water-like consistency and I watch as it becomes thicker and darker, like actual blood has been poured into the bowl instead of a few droplets.

I just had to make sure I stayed free so I could save those still trapped within. Letting the water cascade down my hair and body the water at the bottom turned a dull red, the blood and mud mixing together and being washed away as if they had never been there.
