She settled down under her blankets and fell asleep. Seline was awakened what felt like immediately. She was now exhausted. taking her turn she decided after checks that she would walk around in the other room with occasional checks to make sure that everyone was ok. After what she thought must have been an hour, because Henry refused to give up his watch on the grounds that it was a parting gift from his mother. Seline woke Henry, and once again he checked his watch, and let her go back to sleep. Again Seline was awakened and it felt like only minutes. She kept her watch. This time she decided to try and count while she walked around. That was no good she was soo tire that she kept loosing

As I delved into the pages of the book, the doubts that once lingered in the room filled my mind, challenging me to prove them wrong. Hours passed, and as I neared the end of the book, the elusive answer remained beyond my grasp. Frustration and doubt began creeping in, a heavy weight on my shoulders as the ticking of the watch echoed the passing time, a constant reminder of the dwindling time. Linda, sitting beside me, muttered under her breath, “Slutty bitch.” That jogged my memory. There was a drugging subplot around this part of the story. If I remembered correctly, Linda was the culprit. She had been secretly in love with Calvin for years, but Calvin only had eyes for Nancy. In the original novel, she managed to drug him, but afterward he turned the tables and dosed her ten times worse, leaving her stranded with no help. She ended up with a terrible fate.

That was the honest answer. I had spent thirteen years knowing exactly what every hour required. Wake at five. Light the stove. Begin the cleaning. At my uncle's house, there was never a moment that did not already belong to a task. Here the hours were simply mine. It was the most uncomfortable thing that had ever happened to me. On day two I tried to read. I got through the same page eleven times. The house was too quiet. Not the quiet of an empty place, but of a full one holding itself still. Men moved through the corridors without sound. I never heard anything clearly enough to understand.

Aurora's POV I flipped another page of my novel, I was utterly engrossed in the story. The novel was about a single mother, abandoned by her husband and left to fend for her two kids. It had lots of twists that I didn't expect which kept me on the edge of my seat. The warm afternoon sun kissed my skin as I sat on the patio near the outdoor pool, the gentle sound of water lapping against the edges of the pool creating a soothing background noise.
