I climb and jump to get books off of shelves and Aidan has to catch me a couple of times when I fell. We eventually sit at one of the nooks in the grande room. It's small and cozy with 2 big chairs and a large desk between them. We spread books out on the desk and floor around us. "Anything catch your eye?" I ask him as he stares down at the collection. He looks up at me bewildered. "How do you choose? How do you know which ones will make you escape, make you feel?" He asks with something in his voice I can't quite identify.

[Zeve’s POV] The next day, the four of us set out for Phantoria. It would be a long journey, so Zahir and Amor agreed to hire a public carriage. All Amor did was sleep for most of the journey, while Zahir was reading some kind of book. The book had a red cover with beautifully calligraphed golden words and design on its leather cover. It was in a language I didn’t understand. Venus kept talking to me about various things. Most of the time I tried dodging her questions and the other times I had to make tricky answers so that what I said wouldn’t be a lie, but not a complete truth either.

His mouth formed an ‘O’ as he processed the information. “But it’s nothing like holding a book in your hand and getting lost in an adventure or romance novel.” I joked. “Oh, I have a few books if you want to pick some out and take them with you. For the journey.” “Really? That would be great!” I clapped my hands together in excitement about what new tales I could delve into. I ended up picking out three books. One was about a treasure hunt, the second was a collection of romance stories from around the realm based on Alpha’s finding their mates, and the third was based on historical figures and their relationships to their gods.

For a second, I’m tempted, but then another wave of heat erupts in my chest, and I lose my nerve. “Tell me about the other books,” I say instead. “The other books?” I nod. And as I tuck my knees to my chest and wind my free arm around my knees, breathing through the stuffiness that’s getting more unbearable by the minute, I listen to the most garbled plot summaries I’ve ever heard in my entire life. “Okay. See, there’s this one with a man and his nephew. And they journey to the center of the earth. And there are dinosaurs. And a tornado? Shit—” The brow furrows again. “It might have been a tsunami. Something like that.”

I take this opportunity to be close to my mom since I didn’t get a chance to make her feel better before. When we wake up in the morning, we all just get ready and get back on the road. Again, I started off with my mom and then after a couple hours I was back with my brother. This last stretch felt like forever and that we were never going to get to where we were going. Then finally after hours I finally could smell the farms, and the breeze felt different when I rolled my window down. There it was I could see the sign ‘Welcome to Wimberley!’
