"She's just a kid, and she's already out there getting hotel rooms with people? And now that she's gone missing, she's making all of you run in circles? "Pat, why do you still bother with a walking disaster like her? Wouldn't it be better if she just died out there somewhere?" The cold fury in her eyes made me shudder. Patrick finally seized the chance to speak. "Grace, Aubree booked Room 318." Mom had been about to snap back, but suddenly, she froze as if something had just come to mind.

They bathed together, ate together, and went shopping together, just like what a couple deeply in love would do. I didn't make a scene as I simply watched them show off their affection in silence. With five more days left in the divorce's waiting period, Julian suddenly suggested climbing a snow-covered mountain. He insisted that I come, too. Halfway up, Evelyn had left to get something, leaving Julian and me alone. The gentleness on his face vanished at once, replaced by a cold stare. "Why are you still hanging around here? Do you really think Evelyn will fall for you eventually?"

Liam asked directly. Anna was annoyed and pouted. The romantic atmosphere was ruined by him. “What’s loneliness? I don’t know.” “Loneliness is…” Liam thought for a while, his voice became soft, “When you don’t like sleeping alone on a bed.” His voice, as gentle as a feather, brushed her heart lightly. She felt herself melting, then she shouted at the phone. “Loneliness is when you lie on the bed, thinking about things that you can’t do alone!” Anna hung up the phone angrily.

I'd rather a death be quick and painless then of freaking starvation. I haven't been taken from my room in days. I wish I knew how long I've been here. Of course no one is probably looking. The only "friends" I had were the ones I worked with at the club. And my boss is probably pissed that I haven't shown up to work. So I'm never going to be found because no one is looking. Downsides of being a loner. If you ever get kidnapped, you're fucked.

But for now, I was stuck, unable to move or escape. I had no one to call my own. No family, no friends, no loved ones to turn to. The loneliness was overwhelming, a heavy weight that pressed down on me. I felt like a leaf blown by the wind, without roots or a place to belong. The emptiness echoed through my soul, a reminder of all that was missing. Bob fell quiet for several seconds before whispering, “Yer the only one I ever told them stories to, Carolyn. I promise. Only you. An even with all them others . . . I’m lonely too, cause yer the only one I want.” Carolyn wiped her face with the back of her hand, which of course didn’t help much because of her frosted gloves. Grunting, she ripped off one, turned it inside out and wiped her face as best she could. “You’re lying,” she rasped, her throat burning from the cold wind. “You’re not lonely at all. Not with all those others. And why so many, Bob? Why?” When no answer came right away, she stomped and screeched, “Why?”

The first thing he noticed was the echo. It filled every corner of his apartment a hollow sound that wasn’t quite silence but not quite life either. Every footstep, every turn of a page, every breath felt too loud. He’d never realized how lonely walls could sound until now. Liam sat at his kitchen table, half-drunk coffee cooling beside him, unread messages flooding his phone. He hadn’t checked them all. He didn’t have the heart to. The ones he had opened were enough to sting strangers’ opinions written in confident ignorance.

Our days were filled with laughter, imagination, and a sense of wonder that seemed to permeate every aspect of our lives. But right now, it was the year 2023, Florence felt more lonely and more alone than ever. Florence clutched the glass of alcohol, its amber liquid swirling in her hand. “Should we just go back to the other house and stay there unto she returns? I don’t like the emptiness I feel here.” Lucas lamented. “Should we go for a run? The night is still young and there’s so much time with so little to do,” I would have laughed at him for trying to keep himself busy if I wasn’t feeling the same loneliness that he was feeling. I can’t even remember the last time I felt this alone. I haven’t felt alone since I met my mate and now, fuck! It wasn’t easy being away from her. Now I kind of wished I had talked her into letting me go with her.
