Three days before Christmas, Maya got a call from her first book cafe. She needed to collect mail and interview someone for a new position that opened up. Maya planned on changing its name to 'Blake's Golden Bookstore' to match the one she recently bought. Maya planned on getting Gabriela a few storybooks from her store to go with the many toys she had already bought her. Maya: I'm leaving in a few minutes. I'll text you once I get there. Giovanni: Drive safe, Mami. I'll call you tonight.

Faith’s POV I leave the café with my half-full cup of caramel goodness and decide to take a little detour to the park. I find a quiet spot under a tree and settle in with my book, The House Beyond The Gate. The warm coffee in my hand, the occasional rustle of the leaves... it should be peaceful, right? Instead, my mind refuses to cooperate. I take a sip, letting the sweetness settle in my chest, and sigh. Who was that stranger?

he replied, rounding to the driver’s side, “You still got in the car.” We drove to a small bookstore café he’d mentioned before, the kind of place tucked away on a quiet street, with glowing windows and shelves stacked so high you needed ladders to reach the top. The smell hit me as soon as we stepped inside, old paper, coffee, and something warm, like cinnamon. Hayden shook off the cold and looked around. “Alright, Coleen. You’re in your element now. The lively chatter of patrons filled his ears, accompanied by the clinking of cups and saucers and the whirring of the coffee machines. After a few moments of scanning the bustling cafe, Ronin’s keen eyes settled on the man he was there to meet. He spotted him nestled in a cozy corner near the window, engrossed in a book. He really is a CEO of a company. “But wait there’s more,” he said with a smile, “I heard that books and coffee go hand in hand which is why there will be a place on the first floor for a cafe.” “Cafe?” I asked and my head automatically turned towards Brie’s cafe. I don’t want to steal her potential customers. “Don’t worry you won’t make her lose her business,” he replied as if reading what was on my mind. “What you would do instead is bring her more business because she will be providing the coffee to your cafe here.”

It seemed like a place that you could read a book while drinking your coffee. “Thank you!” I shouted and closed the door. I walked to the entrance with a soft smile on my lips and opened the door. The bell chimed as I walked in. “Welcome to Comcafe. What would you like to order?” a voice said immediately I entered the cafe. I walked to the counter and ordered a cappuccino. “Take a seat. Your order will be coming soon.” she said and I choose a seat beside the window.

Like the scratches on my back that were visible through my shirt if I moved the wrong way‚ or the slight limp I was trying very hard to hide. I took the bus downtown and walked three blocks to Café Noir. It was a small place tucked between a bookshop and a nail salon‚ the kind of coffee shop that had exposed brick walls and mismatched furniture and soft jazz playing through speakers that needed replacing. I had never been there before and I had no idea who picked it or why. I pushed through the front door and the little bell above it chimed. The café was half empty. They all stood in front of Novelty, the book store that had been converted into a small book cafe with scrumptious cakes on display. Hazel's hands were flat against the store window, her face was busy looking at the cakes making Gage chuckle and he grabbed Bree's hands in his. The moment I crossed the threshold, the rich, roasted aroma of espresso enveloped me, but the sudden blast of the building’s air conditioning made me shiver violently against the damp heat I’d brought in from the street. The cafe was a sprawling, split-level space. To the left, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves formed a cozy library nook where customers were quietly flipping through novels. The rest of the floor was a chaotic symphony of clinking ceramic, grinding beans, and the loud, overlapping chatter of students and young professionals unwinding from their midday shifts.

He grinned like a Cheshire cat, then laughed. “Ok, what is this place called?” I asked. “Café Rouge, it is a nice place with a bookshop at the front. So you can go in and sit in the coffee shop reading your sappy romantic novels,” He said, “That is the only information that you need right now,” He added. How does he know what I read? My taste in books has changed since I last saw him. “How do you know what I read?” I asked, feeling slightly on edge.
