Rowan leaned against a thick log, one leg propped up casually, while Mira sat cross-legged near the fire, head tilted back, watching the stars in silence.
"Ren, tell us the story again," piped up one of the pups, a small, sharp-faced girl named Lacey. She tugged at my hand, eyes wide and expectant.
"The Six Packs," another pup added quickly. "Please?"
"You already know it," I said, dropping onto the log with a sigh. "You’ve heard it more times than I can count."
"And we want to hear it again," Mira murmured with a smile. "Let them enjoy it while they’re still young enough to think politics is magic."
