The fighting was brutal and exhausting. Kael tore through climbers, hurling bodies off the roof. Damien moved like a ghost, decapitating threats before they could fully crest the edge. Serena’s spells lit up the night in brilliant violet explosions, but each one left her paler. During a brief lull, Kael shifted back to human form, breathing hard, blood streaming down his chest. He walked over to Serena and dropped to one knee in front of her. “You’re pushing too hard,” he said, cupping her face with surprisingly gentle hands.

Felicity and Pax are my children’s’ names.” she smiled at Crystal. “Serene,” Crystal corrected herself, then continued, “You seem to know Justin and Dylan well,” Dylan choked on his drink from Crystal’s question, making him cough. Serene rubbed his back and gave him a tissue. The action drew Justin’s irk and cast his dagger looks at Dylan.

His face was shadowed and his dark eyes avoided mine. I began to feel uneasy. This ceremony was supposed to unite us, strengthen our bond, and secure the future of our pack. When his eyes briefly touch mine, I see this possessive darkness within them, but he quickly averts his eyes. "If you touch my mate again, I will murder you." Caleb brushes invisible dust off his clothes with a sour expression. Ryan gasps. "But I'm your third in command!"
