I wiped my body with the towel before opening my bag to bring the phone out. I looked at the caller ID and saw that it was Alpha Carlos. I hissed as I dropped the phone on the bed. He continued calling for almost twenty times. I got tired and picked up the phone to put it on flight mode when his text message came in.

Derek looked at his own, noting the device was now cracked beyond any use, practically in two distinct pieces. Declan answered his phone swiftly. Derek watched his Beta listen to whatever was being conveyed from the other end and saw the colour drain from his face. The Beta’s entire posture stiffened, shoulders locking into place as though bracing for impact, his eyes flicking to Derek with a mixture of dread and duty. “Say it,” Derek said quietly, though the words felt like they were being dragged from somewhere deep and unwilling.
